I think I'd prefer to see Jaylen Brown start. For all his warts, Marcus Smart is better at running an offense, and I think that would be more beneficial to the bench unit than the starting unit.
Hopefully Brown can raise his defense another level this year and provide close to the level of defense Smart does. We really only need a '3 and D' type at the starting SG spot. I just want brown to be able to fill that type of role for this season. Anything above that is gravy.
I agree. At this point, Smart is a more valuable player than Brown, but his playmaking isn't as necessary in the starting line-up. We are basically trying to replace AB's role, and Brown seems like he should be able to be a lock-down 1 on 1 defender, hit an open 3, and make cuts/attack the rim. Smart would be the undisputed leader of the 2nd unit and could even vie for 6th man of the year.
