Nice article here:

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/gordon-hayward-is-exactly-what-the-celtics-needed/

Some key points:

-Hayward doesn't need the ball as much as you'd expect (lowest usage rate of all > 20 ppg players).
- Scores very well in transition
- Draws contact

Then this is a key quote to keep in mind:

Quote
As ESPN’s Kevin Pelton noted, the Hayward signing itself may not yield more regular-season wins right off the bat. Last season’s team collected 53 wins, which is five more than the Celtics’ point differential suggested they should have finished with.

In other words, we shouldn't be disappointed if they win the same number of games as last season; they could still be a better (but less lucky regular season) team.

Aside from Hayward, they'll be better because they'll be tougher up front. That was also one of their goals.

Last year's team would have won 56-59 games if not for injuries.

Getting Hayward should push the team into the 60 win range.

The Celtics were not lucky.
They have a great coach.

The usage point is wrong - it's not the lowest (the article says one of not the lowest). And Hayward's usage is very high relative to most NBA players and it's about exactly where you'd expect a low 20s ppg guy to be.

Tell me again how the Celtics will be "tougher up front." They just lost 3 key frontcourt players..

Hayward is a team first player , like Horford ,  Smart , and now Tatum and Brown .  Guys who will listen to their coach and respect each other .

i predicted Tatum was going to be picked , and I wanted Fultz , but knew during the ACC tournament, Tatum was a pure CBS player .  Quiet , smooth , in control of his emotions, and a great scorer.

These are the types DA will mostly recruit , while CBS is coach , I want Cousins , but DA will not do,that .   Then if Doc comes back you can recruit all the divas and hard cases again.   I think this is just going to be the way tue Celtics trade and draft .  Only the guys wearing the white hats.

Marc Gasol  fits the CBS character type as well. ....i can see him and CBS getting along as well.

The statistic in regard to having more and-1's than shots blocked was really cool, especially considering the only other guys in the league who did that are LeBron, Kawhi and KD.

60-wins in the East would be something. A feat that hasn't been accomplished by many in that conference in recent years  ;D

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

problem is that winning 60 games and getting stomped by the Cavs would be awful unless Jaylen and Tatum are playing 20-30 mpg each.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
