Doc's coaching rotations hurt veterans. He doesn't like playing young guys and while he was with the Celtics we were always injured and he goes to the Clippers and the same thing happens. He puts a ton of minutes on his top guys and they are dead by late season or the playoffs. It's not a coincidence...he played for Lenny Wilkins and Pat Riley and that style is dead in this NBA.
You can definitely say that about Doc. And you can also say that about K.C. Jones, in the late 80s and early 90s. Both burned out veteran players by overplaying them.
But why? Because in each case they were not given a deep enough bench. Bird asked for a couple more players in late 80s, but never got them. Wyc turned off the faucet after the Championship, and that team lost their depth. And then KGs knee happened, too. And Perk's, which cost them one championship, along with Bradley's shoulder against the lucky Heat.
Both these teams should have won more Championships, but they lacked the bench to do it.
