I understand the implications involved around two starting PG's but...

Apparently the Nets also sent out Caris LeVert, who was a binkie of mine, but no other official websites are reporting it. But why would the Lakers do this? I mean surely, Russell is worth more than the 27th pick, and Lopez...?

They get rid of a bad contract (Mozgov) which alone is maybe worth more than D-Lo. They gain a really good offensive player in Lopez for this year. Add Ball & PG13 and they have a pretty decent team this year and cap space next year of potentially 64 million to either add PG13 or pay him if they already have plus add LeBron. If they picked up Levert also then they really made a great deal.

LaVert wasn't included in the deal I believe but they attempted byo use D Lo to get back in the Top 12 but wasn't able to do so. They move was to move the horrendous contract of Mozgov and Russell ended up being the casualty to make that deal happen. This opens up the books for the lakers in the future to acquire LeBron and Paul George

perhaps, but i am doubtful lebron would want to join a team when the only credible veteran player is george. lebron doesnt have 2-4 years to wait until ingram, ball, et al are finally great nba players.

is ball or ingram better than kyrie for the next 2-3 years? i dont think so.

and after the lakers pay lebron and george, do they have the room for another max player?

simply put, can the lakers put together a supporting cast in the next year that will beat what the cavaliers had this past year? lebron wont wait even a few years for such a team that to happen. he needs to join an established team since he prime playing days are coming to an end.

san antonio might make a lot more sense than LA.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Don't wade and carmelo on cheap deals make a lot of sense? Would be a heck of a lot more fun to play with those guys in LA than it would in Cleveland

I agree.  I think the lakers are definitely setting up to make a run at this scenario but the media makes it seem like it's a foregone conclusion lebron will go there if he leaves since he has a house there.  I don't know their cap situation but if Chris Paul is still there the Clippers might make more sense.  Not to mention that on your resume:  getting the Clippers a championship.
