I'd try to keep KO. I'm willing to let Smart and Crowder go to gain space for Hayward. We need to keep IT, Bradley, and Horford, start KO with Horford. That 5 could be pretty good.

Fultz, Brown, Rozier, Zizic, and vet minimum guys line out the bench.

Hope the young guys are ready for real minutes when the playoffs role around. We have already seen Brown and Rozier, and with a little growth, I'm cool with them. Add some ring chasing vets...

1. Draft Fultz

2. Sign Millsap to a 1 year contract so Ainge can target Cousins/Lebron in 2018

  • Let's Go Celtics!
Would Avery fit in Dallas? Dirk would like one more shot, and if they could sign Paul and Hayward... That's a nice starting 5

Justin Anderson, Powell, and their pick would work no?

They traded Justin Anderson in a package to Philly for Nerlens Noel.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

The 2016-2017 Celtics minus IT is a fring playoff team. I dont believe Hayward is interested in leaving Utah to go to a fringe playoff team. I just dont believe that. Although, he is rumored to be interested in Miami, so perhaps Im incorrect there.
The 2016-2017 Celtics minus IT, plus Fultz is not a fringe playoff team. In any case, that's not what I was saying. My point was that if we draft Fultz - Isaac and swap IT for Hayward we will be the 2nd best team in the East.

The key thing to remember is that not only would we probably be a ~40 win team, but wed be a 40 win team that had just publicly announced that we didnt think we could compete in the near future. Because you dont trade your all-nba point gaurd if you think you can compete. Gordon hayward isnt coming to a 40 win team that just made that public announcement. Even if they employ his former coach.
Except for the Warriors, the Cavs and the Spurs, no other team can compete for a championship in the near future. Will the Jazz compete if Hayward stays in Utah? Of course not. Will the C's compete if Hayward comes here? No we won't but at least we are guaranteed an easier path to the conference finals.

The Cs are a playoff team as constructed even without Isaiah. However, Gordon Hayward is not joining a Celtics team that has just traded Isaiah Thomas. That's the opposite of what he is seking

Draft Fultz and sign James Johnson to a 3 yrs at $15M per contract. Keep everyone.

Less practical
Sign Gordon Hayward.
Trade 2017 Brooklyn pick, Jae Crowder and Marcus Smart for Kristaps Porzingas and filler.

That's an overpay for the Zinger in my book.

Get a big guy around the rim..that's my biggest concern...if not, then this team will not be a championship team
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Problem with James Johnson is he is a below average rebounder. The Heat have Whiteside (elite rebounder) playing at the 5 whereas the C's have Horford.

JaMychal Green would be a great fit next to Horford but he is a RFA so we can't sign him with the room exception. If we miss out on marquee free agents, I would love us to go after J. Green.

Assuming we sign Hayward, my under the radar free agent target would be Patrick Patterson from the Raps. I think he might be available for around 4 million a year (room exception).

I definitely agree its a big overpay, but there is only one way to get a guy like that and that is to overpay. Signing Hayward means making some hard decisions. I don't think losing Crowder and Smart will hurt, because Hayward and Jaylen Brown would win those minutes if they stay, and Porzingas's contract is even more appealing than Crowder's. The thing about Porzingas is that he fits the teams needs almost perfectly.

I don't believe he will be a top 3 type player, but he would probably give us what we need to compete immediately for a title, while still being part of a very young core.

We get that extra star on a budget deal, so we can keep Bradley and Olynyk, and still sign a max player. He's a true two way player. He gives us a badly needed injection of size and rim protection, and he moves his feet well enough to cover picks, without sacrificing spacing and offense. He is an impossible matchup for GS and Cleveland. He's a unicorn!
