It is always strange when a team drafts the position that they are already strong at. It definitely raises some eyebrows.
It says a couple of things, for example:
- We don't find the weakness at the other position so glaring or unsolvable.
- We don't believe others are as good to be worthy of the pick.
- You (current player) are good but we need better at that spot in the future.
- We would like to add extra fuel to the fire and see you battle at every practice.

In our case, it is even more intriguing.
We are not probably just drafting the position that they are already strong at, but where we have a stud cause Isaiah is just that right now. Unstoppable scorer.
Now imagine DA inserting a highly regarded guard like Fultz between IT, Smart, AB and possibly TR.
As far as I can read the sentiment on the forum, it is that the fans would like to do (J.J. fans excluded :) for now)
If all goes well, we will pick first and we would probably go with Fultz.

What is hovering above my head is this question.
Could a competitive guy like IT take Fultz under his wing and not care about the future possible loss of the spotlight, minute reduction, role change or even eventual trade just cause he is his fellow alumni?
Would that help at all?
Would that make IT tolerate the move a bit more?

I know that Marquette, Kentucky, NC, UCLA and other alumni stay in some sort of a brotherhood all throughout their NBA carriers.
How does this dynamic affect the whole "in next 2 years we have to resolve our guard rotation" question?
And how do you think Isaiah would react?

I think we have to let them play for it and let their play determine who gets what role.

IT4 is unlikely to lose his starting spot to Fultz unless Markelle comes in and is better than IT then that means he has been destroying Smart, Crowder, and Bradley in Training Camp/pracitce so Stevens will have no reason to keep him off the floor over guys like Rozier. Thomas probably doesn't care much for high draft picks but he'll have to respect a guy that can score on his teammates and will take a chunk of the scoring load off of him. By the time Fultz will be ready to start, ideally his second year, IT4 should already have 3 years as the face of the Celtics and as an all star. Once we have to resgin him at age 29, I'm anticipating him to take a step back in his capabilities somewhere down the line and that's when Fultz comes in and allows us to keep an all star player at that PG spot for the foreseeable future.

I think the Huskies tie won't be a big factor but maybe IT will relate more to Fultz who wasn't such a shoo-in, blue chip prospect until he's made that improvement coming out of HS.

I'm ok with Fultz as an off guard. This backcourt could be as good as Toronto's or Portland's. Fultz looks like a top offensive talent. I would love this result.

IT is smart enough to understand the NBA as a business. If he continues to play with a chip on his shoulder, he's going to get max $, whether it's here or somewhere else. I have no doubt that he would play like a professional with Fultz.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Fultz is big enough and long enough to play SG so I don't see a conflict with drafting Fultz.

Having both IT and Fultz out there would give the Celtics a dynamic guard duo that would be nearly impossible to defend.

This would also make AB and Smart expendable in a trade package for a star.

Fultz, Smart, Crowder, Horford, and Noel.
what about them?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

You're overthinking things.  There is only one reason for picking a player.  You think he is better than the rest.
