Some Trade Market Info

From Zach Lowe's piece today:

If L.A. could bid the Kings down to a package of just Randle, Clarkson, and one future first-rounder [for Demarcus Cousins], they'd have to do it, but the Kings aren't selling that low.

Cousins doesn't appear to be available with the No. 8 seed in reach for Sacramento as the Blazers flail around, though no one knows what to expect of the Kings. They are an irrational actor.

Larry Bird isn't returning calls on Paul George with a friendly new CBA on the way, according to teams who have inquired. Russell Westbrook is off the market. Pulling any trade before the Lakers know if they have a pick near the top of a loaded draft feels reckless.

So Cousins probably isn't available for as long as Sacramento can see the 8th seed. I'm still interested in the package Lowe cites from the Lakers, though. He says Sacramento wouldn't do a deal for so little but even if the Celtics would be bidding against packages slightly bigger than that, they'd still be able to blow them out of the water.

If we want Cousins at all, that is.

Paul George is probably off the table, no surprise.

The piece also got me thinking. What if the Lakers lure a big name (let's say Blake decides he wants to play for the Lakers) in free agency and want to crank up their rebuild. Would the Celtics be interested in the Lakers' youngsters (say: Horford/IT for Deangelo/Ingram/Randle)? I think if the C's win close to 50 games and get out of the first round, the answer is definitely not. They'd have enough assets to tweak and upgrade the roster to get into contention. But if the C's under-perform (45 wins and a game 7 loss to Charlotte in the 1st round) they might consider a total youth movement, with Avery and Crowder as the veteran generals.

I think he will be available but the price will be high...
As I stated in another post I expect both Nets picks, Brown, and the likes of either Smart or Crowder. plus filler....
Sac is playing their cards right now... they say they are not trading him and DMC has publicly said he is not being traded... Maybe they worked this out behind closed doors? Because all things pointing like he wants out ...again denies it

Fakers don't have enough to get Cousins without depleting their roster. It would take two of Randle/ Russell/lngram plus Clarkson plus picks, so why bother then?

And they are limited as to what they can substantively offer include in first round picks until the lottery.

Fakers think they're entitled to another "Pau" gift trade.....they think it's some unwritten NBA rule.....hey, they're the Lakers.

The Lakers would have to offer a huge amount to get the Kings to send them Cousins, then watch him return and pound them for another decade.

If the Clippers had a real GM, Blake Griffin would on the table but Doc isn't thinking beyond this years.

Given the Lakers are in the same division as Sac, you'd have to think they'd need to pay a premium to get him. I'm sure Sac would rather accept a similar package from the East.

It's important to remember that trades are not always about demand in the market. There is a floor for how much a superstar is worth, nearing the end of his contract doesn't decrease that floor.

The least we'd ever have to pay is something like:

Cousins for Amir, Smart, Nets 17, Mem 19

or

Cousins and Barnes for Amir, Rozier, Young, Nets 17

Likely though we'd need to include both Nets picks + Smart/Rozier and Amir to get it done. I don't think we'd want to do more than that, that's already a huge package

I'd think that the kings are going to want someone not as volatile as Smart especially if they need to rearrange the culture in their organization.  I'd expect that they'd want someone like Crowder or Bradley to come in and be the big brother to tutor their current roster and future roster (probably more likely Crowder since he is locked in until 2020).  A package of Crowder, Zeller, Rozier and Nets 2018 and Memphis 2019 might be more enticing than Smart and Rozier.  Also, Brown should be in no way traded to the Kings.  This kid has way too much potential to be shipped to the Kings and become a bust.

We're also in the season when GMs are using the press to drive up the value of their players. That season, of course, is any day that ends in -y.

But even if SAC is holding out for a big offer, DMC's value will drop at an increasingly faster rate, the closer he gets to being a free agent.

Heck no on your trade idea. Why are we trading two all-stars for three guys who might, at the best, possibly make an all-star team, but who are more likely rotation guys?

The earliest 1st the Lakers could trade would be 2020 or 2021 depending on whether the Sixers get the Lakers 2018 1st or the Sixers and Magic get the Lakers 2017 and 2019 1sts respectively.  So the Lakers picks won't hold much value and I don't think Randle and Clarkson would be enough.
