After the league watched us steal a top-three pick from the Nets this summer, which is almost unprecedented in the modern NBA, and the extremely pessimistic forecast with the Nets this season, how valuable are the remaining Brooklyn picks going to be?

For example, let's say that we're halfway through January, and Brooklyn is firmly in the lead for the worst record in the league by two to three games over Philly. What kind of value will that have in trying to trade for a star from another team? Is it enough to finally get us Cousins? Butler? George?

Let's look at a specific situation, such as Indiana. Paul George isn't really available for trade, unless it's for an upgrade like Lebron James or Kevin Durant. But let's suppose that the Indiana Pacers' season is not going as planned. Their recent additions aren't really fitting in, and they're on the outside looking in fighting for a playoff spot. This would leave them with either a very late lottery pick or mid first round pick in the draft and very little chance of drawing any of the significant free agents to their small market in Indiana. Basically, they'd be a treadmill team without much hope of getting significantly better. Let's also assume that one of the potential number one picks (let's say Harry Giles) is tearing it up in college ball and looks to be the consensus number one pick.

Would a trade offer of something like George and CJ Miles for Amir, Brown, Rozier, the 2017 Brooklyn swap, and the Memphis pick be enough to finally sway Bird on trading George?

To me, I think that's a yes. Last year there was no (recent) precedent for such a major steal with a draft pick that high in the lottery. But after watching us steal a top-3 pick last year, I think this opportunity will be fresh in the minds of many GMs who have a potential disgruntled or aging star that they're not fully taking advantage of.

So if things go as many expect them to go, i.e. Brooklyn being the worst team in the league, strong draft class, etc., I think we will have many more options this time around with an even stronger draft pick and more recent history to support such a transaction.

What do you think the trade value of our Brooklyn pick will be this year during the season?

Bonus question - would you make the above George trade? I would. Our time is now with Horford, and I love the fit of George at the 4 next to him. Our defense would be absolutely lethal, we'd greatly increase our three point shooting with George and Miles, and we'd present a real threat to both Cleveland and GS as the most overall talented team in the league.

people are saying this draft is stacked, if that's true I hope we draft the best center if not used for Cousins/trade.

hopefully, the value is enough for a really good center at least.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Too much for role players,  but not enough for a star.

I think wr end up keeping it even if its the #1

it depends how the college season plays out but if the top prospects live up to the hype, if it's the top pick going into the lottery, that pick goes nowhere.  the top 3-4 prospects are potential franchise players whose timeline would be in line with our younger players rather than the FA we just brought in.  Horford is the outlier on this roster in terms of talent window, not the norm.

I would honestly rather keep it at this point. I wanna build a nice core through the draft, so that after Al and Isaiah get older, we have a good group of guys to hand over the keys to the franchise to.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

So the offer you propose isn't enough, you'll need the other Nets pick to even start talking.
Regardless though George isn't moving, if their season doesn't go well I think Bird will begin to position them for 2018 FA and look to add a guy like Cousins or Wall to the team. George seems fully on board with their process.

I think it's enough to get Sac talking. I don't know what the final package would be but it would definitely look attractive to them. I could see a Cousins trade at the deadline if the Nets stink and Sac are outside of the playoffs

Like you, I would love to build around George but IMO, at age 26, they will try to strip the team down to George, Turner, maybe a couple of the other young guys and rebuild. That is, of course, if they have a disappointing season. Also, I believe that your offer is a nonstarter. Even two of Thomas/Bradley/Crowder plus both Brooklyn picks would probably be turned down by Larry.

George is unlikely to be traded for that offer.  And with the young core we have, it's probably better to keep that top pick and draft a franchise player.

This is a playoff team that has the luxury of top 5 picks for the next 2 years, we already used one selection for a top 3 prospect.  That is some pretty crazy team building.  DA's trade just looks better and better with each passing season!

Looking at the stars who -might- be available, Cousins and Griffin seem the most likely.  Please don't call Okafor a star.  I'd probably offer the 2018 Nets pick plus players to land a Cousins or a Griffin.  Griffin has injury concerns and Cousins has 'prima donna' concerns or they wouldn't be available.

Okafor I wouldn't trade for unless it's a non-Nets pick.  His defense is simply atrocious and low-block scoring without 3 point threat is turning into a dinosaur offensive skillset in the modern NBA.
