He was labeled fat in some scouting reports.  I don't know if he was at some point, but he's clearly very fit and muscular.  He's bulky which might be why some mistook him as fat, but it's all muscle.  I don't think training is his problem, he's a former boxer afterall.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
This has been a knock on him; he is big and strong, but doesn't necessarily use that to his advantage (offensively and defensively). I would agree with knuckle that his physical stature is solid - an NBA body right now - but he has some work to do on his technique in using his body to his best advantage. If so, he will be a force.

As it stands, it looks like his best offense is driving to the hoop while avoiding traffic and hitting outside shots. He should be able to do a lot more damage down low both with his shooting and on defense with bodying up guys and rebounding. Right now, it's mostly in his head and he needs to be more aggressive.

It's hard to believe he is as young as he is.

I think he needs to learn how to box out and body up better, but there was a play yesterday where he held his own against Cooley's best attempts to move him, so you can see the strength and potential
I'm bitter.

I sure hope it's technique and not that he has weak lower body strength. Pre-draft highlight film show him easily getting pushed out of position from much lighter players. Adding to this, video  demonstrated that his defensive reaction time is extremely slow. Maybe he has trouble focusing?

Good to hear that he did well holding his own in against Cooley.

europeans play a skill game
have him watch film on barkley
get him doing drills and weight room  at waltham till training camp
he should be relishing contact and he should block out like he sets a screen-
we had one of these huge guys and he wouldn't hit -maybe they got it in there head young about being a bully--he seems to have a nice disposition off court-
