His market value is more than 10M. I don't want him on the Celtics though, even at 10M. He just doesn't have what it takes to be a starting center.

Career averages of 10PPG & 7RPG is pretty bad for a starting center. He does have 2BPG and he does alter shots, but I can't help but feel his defense is a bit overrated.

Mozgov was paid $16m/yr (for FOUR years!), but that doesn't mean he's WORTH that much...

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Unlike Mozgov, Hibbert has absolutely no upside and his career has been spiraling downward for the last couple of seasons. I am not saying he is a league minimum guy, but I don't know how a team even tries to explain to their fanbase that they gave Roy Hibbert $10M+ / yr salary.

Mozgov is younger and has proven recently (not these finals) that he can be a good rotation player and even a starting caliber center; Hibbert, well, let's just say he has not proven that.

Yeah, I knew that one was going to bite me - But in all reality, Hibbert has a LOT more miles on him than Moz.

I have some really strong opinions on this when it applies personally, but not relevant here. Suffice it to say, don't ever let anyone think you're not worth exactly what you're getting paid. That's not how economics work for one, and also the only thing that happens is you end up looking like a sucker.

I should have commented on it more fully in that I agree with your premise--Hibbert has already peaked and is troughing right now. Mozgov at least is a great character guy and might not have hit the cliff that Hibbert has.

You need to consider the style of ball the Celtics want to play.

Mozgov and Hibbert will not work with the style the Celtics have chosen to play about 70% of the time.

Each well run NBA team, makes a decision on the style of ball they want to play. They then begin gathering players that fit into this style. The C's have chosen, (for better or worse)  the more modern small ball, ball movement, stretch 4 & 5 concept.

Just throwing in a Mozgov or a Hibbert is not going to work, unless you have your small ball rotation set in stone. The C's don't... their still looking for major parts to the small ball rotation.
