Rather interesting correlation of teams with logos. As a non American I  assumed the Celtics would have gone with Guinness, or whatever Diageo brand is most recognized in the states. Tim Cato went with Draft kings and Dunkin' donuts

I am most probably going to start a Facebook page dedicated to telling people not to buy the sponsored jerseys. Silver said it will have a 3 year trial but if no one buys them it has to go away, there is absolutely no reason for this other than greed. The NBA just signs a record deal and revenue is at all time record highs and the owners just want more.

Some will compare soccer having ads on their jerseys but a soccer game is only 90 mins and because it is continuous e.g.. no stoppages, time outs ect. there is less advertising revenue, the owners and the league know this but are just trying to exploit the situation. I am also very sure that badge will get bigger and bigger as people become accustom to ads on jerseys and NFL, MLB, NHL will have to follow suit.

I couldn't agree more.

When banning Pete Rose from the game of baseball, the commissioner cited "no player is bigger than the game."  But it seems that Silver thinks that Sponsors are just as big as the team name and history.

I'm all for sponsors, every entertainment business relies upon them.  But they surround the court, not infiltrate the game that is being played.  Sneakers are the only exception, but those are specific to the players and not the Organization or NBA.

This move is outright greed by a business that already has record profits.  This extra revenue will NOT lower ticket prices, goods sold at the games, etc.

I would say the sponsors are either local big name businesses or whoever owns the stadium. So for the Celtics probably TD Bank, or if it's a local business Gillette

When Silver announced the decision, I had to admit he didn't look too comfortable with it and reports indicate that Lakers were against the decision so I'd like to know what greedy Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again. conjured up this idea, i'd put my money on someone like Dolan, Bucks owner, who just scammed Milwaukee gov out of buying a (bunch of Billionaires) a shiny new stadium with tax payers money.

I think I heard something that the jerseys that people buy won't have the ads. It's only the on court stuff that has ads, if I'm not mistaken.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Yeah, it's if no one buys the ads, not the jerseys.

I'm surprised someone didn't already post this earlier.  It's a lock for the Sixers at least, who will be partnering with StubHub.

Any advertisement on the C's jersey would completely mar the best uniform in all of sports.  But I guess people will eventually get used to them.  Though not really related, it reminds me of the news of New Orleans changing their team name to the Pelicans.  Sounded stupid at the time, but not so much anymore.

This is RIDICULOUS! Not only does the NBA have the nerve to put sponsors on jerseys, but now the sponsor patch will be crystal clear and the ACTUAL team name will be blurry?!?! Will not buy blurry jersey.

Alternatively the Cs could pull an FC Barcelona and use the spot to promote one of their major CSR partners, instead of another snarky money grab.

Yeah I hate the idea of ads on my jersey
So won't be buying it
Hopefully the trial is a failure

I just think ads make the jerseys ugly like the players are walking billboards for major corporations

Imagine the KFC logo on a Celtics jersey ;D!

Jokes aside. I think it's a bad idea. Totally ruins the look of the jerseys in my eyes.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
