The Sacramento Kings are progressing rapidly in discussions with Dave Joerger, with a Monday meeting that will include owner Vivek Ranadive being the final hurdle to Joerger’s hiring as head coach, league sources told The Vertical.

...

The framework of a contract has been moving into place over the weekend, taking the shape of a three-year deal in the neighborhood of $4 million a year, league sources said.

This seems like a pretty good fit for the Kings.  He's got experience coaching talented big men, and he's emphasized defense and a more deliberate pace.

The team definitely has potential. Will be interesting to see what Joerger can do with the Kings if he can all the players on board and locked in.

Good move by the Kings (for a change). I wonder what Rondo does knowing this info.

Unfortunately, I think this means a DMC trade is out of the question, at least this offseason, because Joerger is going to be the "new savior" to finally get them to the playoffs, though I do think it's a good hire for them. Of course, I think you could still blow them away with a Godfather offer including a top-two pick and nab him. I just think they try to make it work with Joerger first.

Although, maybe Joerger would want a fresh start with players more suited to his style. I think Simmons would be an excellent two-way, point-forward type of player under Joerger's fast pace philosophy.

i understand your point, but it could just as well mean that cousins is out the door and the kings want to burn it down to build it up. new coach, new roster, new attitudes.

they probably keep cousins, but for the same reasons they have always kept him, he is a real star player and that makes him rare.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

An interesting take on the Joerger hiring by Lowe

I think it will end up just like Memphis - Ranadive being too involved in the basketball and tension between coaching and ownership with management playing a middleman role.
