IT has to be number one, because MVP means most valuable player, and without IT I think this team wouldn't be in the playoffs. We lack any kind of offensive consistency without him or Turner, and his ASG level contributions have put him over ET in my eyes. As IT goes, the Celtics go, and vice versa. We wouldn't be near where we are without him.
Two is Crowder. And he gives IT a run for his money at 1 because of his defensive impact, offensive improvement, and his leadership intangibles. One thing is clear from watching this team this season. Crowder is the leader. If anyone should be Captain next year, it's him. Because he is the driving force behind the likes of Turner, Olynyk, Sullinger, etc., becoming at least competent defenders. He's truly taken a full leap forward this year, and I expect him to be an integral part in the next Celtic contender.
Three is a toss up. I could make a case for Turner, he's been amazing this year. He was literally one stop away from being out of the league when he came here, and now he's looking at an 8 figure contract this off-season. If he stays in Boston and things break right, he could still well shed that bust label that's been haunting him since he was drafted. I could make a case for AB, because he's consistently underrated, and he's been a HUGE part of what we did this year. He's our most consistent 3PT shooter, our best PG defender, and All-NBA D-Team level player. He's come up huge in big moments, and has continued to improve his weaknesses to the point that he's crossing over and driving on dudes now. He's been big. Amir has been vital, as has Sullinger. Sully seized the moment early on and has been a staple of this team all year. Even Smart, KO and Jerebko have been really important. That's how it goes when the sum is greater than the parts.
If you put a gun to my head, it's..
1) Isaiah Thomas
2) Jae Crowder
3) Evan Turner
3A) Avery Bradley
4) Marcus Smart
5) Amir Johnson
5A) Jared Sullinger
