How do you guys think it'll effect free agency? I love all the talk about so and so coming here but if we look really bad and get bounced in 5 or 6 wonder if that'll hurt our chances in the summer. I'm a little scared of Miami and even about our game today. We know we prob aren't going to get many calls and we're going to have to find a way to get IT going he was bottled up pretty good last year.

The money will still be there, right?

I mean, no one wants to see them go one & done in ugly fashion but I think the impact would be relatively minimal unless it involved something like Stevens strangling one of his player or dropping the N bomb.

I could be wrong but I don't think that an upcoming & coming team losing in the first round of the playoffs would be the straw that breaks the camel's back in whether or not a high profile FA comes to Boston.  If they don't, I'm thinking there are other reasons for it.

That's why I've argued against getting the third seed on here. It'd be much worse if we were the higher seed and were eliminated in an ugly fashion than if we were a lower seed.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

What a sad thread premise. I guess we will just have to wait and hope this isn't a topic we have to deal with. Given that we can only play 3 different teams now and have beaten all those teams, and probably will have homecourt advantage, this seems like the least likely playoff outcome.

It is probably something like 50% advance past first round (especially with home court) 40% lose a competitive series, 8% lose in 5. 2% get swept.

If the C's lose to the Bobcats in round 1, I don't think crazy free agents will come here.
If the C's lose to Miami Heat with us having home court advantage in round 1...I don't like our chances.

If the C's lose to the Hawks in the first round, then it's probably understandable. They're clearly a better team than the Celtics atm.

I'm just trying to set the bar low I dont think well get sweeped either, at least were in better position going in

Would you say we lost in ugly fashion last year to the Cavaliers?

A four game sweep...some would call that ugly.  (Not me personally...I was proud for their accomplishments last year to even make the playoffs.)

Yet, when the season is over...when the ping pong balls are numbered and we know where we draft...you will see Boston very actively involved in acquiring the best FA's possible.

I seriously doubt that anything that happened last year...or this year...will have any impact whatsoever.  It would be along the same lines of saying that since OKC beat us like a red headed (Cowens? :) ) step child the last time we played them that Durant would NEVER consider signing in Boston.

We've got the money...we've got the coach...we've got the legacy...what more could anybody want?

If they get swept or lose convincingly in 5, it'd definitely hurt their ability to argue they're just one major piece away from contending.

Still, free agents can look at the big picture.  By July, the team might look pretty different depending on what happens on draft day.

So it certainly wouldn't help, but by no means would it extinguish their ability to make a case to free agents.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

This is pretty spot on. A first round round win or competitive loss will help but they aren't the vital factors to getting a free agent to Boston. It may be more important to see individuals, like IT, AB and JC perform well. As a FA I would like to see how those guys go under pressure.

Doesn't effect the 3rd tier type FA signings

Probably shouldn't hurt odds of those 2nd tier signings unless all other things equal.

But it does lessen likelihood of a 1st tier FA like Durant considering coming here.

This. I don't think they'll get a real shot at Durant (I think he'll just re-sign) but someone like Al Horford who might have come over might think otherwise if the team hasn't won enough to convince him it would be worth it. It doesn't kill the chance and it matter who we draft but it's definitely not a good look.

Honestly I'm not scared of facing the Heat or the Pistons in the 1st round.
We've shown we can beat them.

The question is can we get past the second round.

same, but if we lose in 5 in round one, bad things await.

It really wouldn't help. Especially if we're talking KD here, it just isn't in his best interests to commit long-term to a team that hasn't made the second round of the playoffs in years. Much better to stay in OKC for a year and postpone the big decision until 2017.

I think that if we want to get KD, we really need to make the second round and we probably need to have a competitive series, too.
