The track record of the NCAA championship game featuring at one or more good pros in the rotation of at least one of the two teams is pretty solid. Rarely does the game not feature a single All Star. So which player from tonight will it most likely be?

Archi-whatever. Sickest last name ever. It's a 2 in 1 lol. First name and last name.

In all seriousness, no one? Idk I didn't see any amazing talent out there tonight.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Brice Johnsons got probably the best shot. That being said I don't see him being much better than an OK pro

Denis,

Right on. It's better to take things for what they are then try to apply some algorithm from past games. If you look at the players playing, there are no stars like there were from previous years. Not much more to discuss then that.

The best All Star (if applicable) from each year's game since 1993 until 2012:

93 Chris Webber
94 Grant Hill
95 (Corliss Williamson was a Sixth Man of the Year)
96 Antoine Walker
97 Jamaal Magloire
98 Jamaal Magloire
99 Elton Brand
00 Jason Richardson
01 Gilbert Arenas
02 (Best pro was...dunno, Jeffries, Blake?)
03 Carmelo Anthony
04 (Ben Gordon was SMOY, Emeka Okafor was ROY)
05 Deron Williams
06 Al Horford
07 Al Horford
08 Derrick Rose
09 Draymond Green
10 (Gordon Hayward?)
11 (Kemba Walker?)
12 Anthony Davis

It's not always a featured player or a touted 1st round prospect.

I could see him being a pretty good pro.

How about any others? Meeks? Justin Jackson? Josh Hart?

Going back further...

79 Bird or Magic
80 Kiki Vandeweghe
81 Isiah Thomas
82 Michael Jordan
83 Hakeem Olajuwon
84 Hakeem Olajuwon
85 Patrick Ewing
86 (Pervis? Johnny Dawkins?)
87 Derrick Coleman
88 Danny Manning or Mookie Blaylock
89 Glen Rice
90 Larry Johnson
91 Grant Hill
92 Chris Webber

Out of 34 years, only 2 games that didn't have at least one player who later collected significant hardware and only 4 games that didn't have at least one NBA All Star. (Or in the case of Hayward/Kemba, on the verge.) It's possible this year's game will be one of those, too, but unlikely.

The three guys who have a chance are Brice Johnson, Josh Hart and Daniel Ochefu. I like both Hart and especially Ochefu as 2nd round sleepers. Both are worse versions of lotto picks: Ochefu is like an older version of Poeltl, and Hart is a lot like Hield but a little less good at shooting.

Edit: didn't see that the question was about being an all star. Don't think any of these guys have a real shot at that, but these are the three that seem most likely to have an NBA career.

Which player has a ceiling closest to All Star, even if it's a longshot? Brice? It may very well be a non-All-Star year. But there has never been a year where there wasn't at least one player who went on to have a solid NBA career. Somebody we saw last night is at least going to play for about a decade and have some decent years. Brice again?

I keep hearing how the title game was an all time best game but I disagree. There weren't many stars involved. It was two middling teams that played for a championship during a down year. The game was competitive but I wasn't wowed by the talent on display. It would be like watching the Hawks play the Blazers in a competitive 7 game series for the title with multiple buzzer beaters. The games might be suspenseful but I'm not going to be impressed by the talent. No way I'm putting that Villanova game in a top 5 all time finals game and I would be very surprised if any stars come out of this group.

Time to let this thread RIP.

with Brice, you'd have to hope he has the development along the lines of jimmy butler. The thing about this tournament is that all the real prospects got bounced early, the last of which was Buddy in the final 4. I think the reason Vila was as good as they were is that they had the time to build chemistry as the majority of the team are upperclassman. The team as a whole was better than the sum of its parts, and those parts arent good enough for NBA teams.

Time to let this thread RIP.

So now you're trolling me because I called out your hate-on-Smart thread based on dumb statistical trivia and because every post of mine alerts people to the shameful fact that you are a Felgerite. Wonderful, that'll totally convince people that you're not really the annoying, useless contrarian you completely appear to be.

Well, I guess Brice has the theoretical possibility of being an all star. Mostly because his main weaknesses-- passing and defense-- are typically underappreciated by all-star voters. But I'd say there are at least two dozen prospects more likely to be an all star than he is. If we're betting on who will have a solid NBA career, my money is on Ochefu followed by Hart.
