Hypothetically, if the C's and Hawks finish with the same record, and we win our last game vs them in April (which would make us 2-2 against Atlanta), how would the tiebreaker be determined to see who is the 3rd seed?

division record i think.
edit: actually its win % in own conference.
edit 2: because they win their conference, they have tiebreaker

You mean because they win their division? We actually have a better win% in conference currently.

first edit i meant that win % in against the teams in own conference.
second edit i meant to write division.

Its looking like if we are tied, they will get the higher seed.

Darn! That is so annoying. Hopefully we finish ahead of them.

I'm also curious as to 3 or more teams finishing with the same record (for our Dallas pick). Anyone know for complex tiebreaker situations?

Tiebreaker rules

Quote
TIEBREAKER BASIS WHEN TWO TEAMS ARE TIED:

(1A) Better winning percentage in games against each other
(2A) Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
(3A) Better winning percentage against teams in own division (only if tied teams are in same division)
(4A) Better winning percentage against teams in own conference
(5A) Better winning percentage against teams eligible for playoffs in own conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position)
(6A) Better winning percentage against teams eligible for playoffs in opposite conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position)
(7A) Better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents (point differential).

TIEBREAKER BASIS WHEN MORE THAN TWO TEAMS ARE TIED:

(1B) Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
(2B) Better winning percentage in games against each other
(3B) Better winning percentage against teams in own division (only if tied teams are in same division)
(4B) Better winning percentage against teams in own conference
(5B) Better winning percentage against teams eligible for playoffs in own conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position)
(6B) Better net result of total points scored less total points allowed against all opponents (point differential).

For our preset purposes only rules 1A, 4A, 1B and 4B are relevant

If interested in the tiebreaker rule full monty, click below and look at the bottom:

C's tiebreakers for this season

Settled

We have the tiebreaker over Chicago, Charlotte, Miami and Washington

Indiana has the tiebreaker over us

Unsettled

Atlanta leads 2-1, last game on April 9

Detroit: tied 2-2 will come down to rule 4a (better winning record in own conference)

Source: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/3/18/11260498/nba-playoff-picture-2016-tiebreakers-standings

Possible scenarios

For two team ties: we have the tiebreaker against Charlotte and Miami. If Atlanta wins our next game they will have the tiebreaker over us; if we win it will go down to best winning record in Eastern Conference.

In the case of a multiple tiebreaker: If Atlanta is not in the tie, we have the tiebreaker in all possible combinations.

If Atlanta is in the tie, and  we win our next game, we have the tiebreaker if Miami is in the tie too (MIA has the tiebreaker against Atlanta; we'll have the tie against Atlanta and the tiebreaker against everyone else); if MIA is not in (ie: a tie between Boston, Charlotte and Atlanta) Charlotte finishes last, and tiebreaker between Boston and Atlanta goes down to rule 4b (best winning against teams in Eastern Conference).

If Atlanta is in the tie, and they win in the next game, there will be lots of ramifications; will have to get a new look at that after the game.
