Simmons at 1. Trade up for a bench scorer like Hield, Valentine or Murray. Use any picks left over on draft and stash players.

Sign Horford. Use him to help get a meeting with Durant. Durant signs here.

Thomas/Smart/Rozier
Bradley/Valentine/Hunter
Durant/Crowder/Young
Simmons/Olynyk/Mickey
Horford/Sullinger/
I posted my ideal scenario so far this is the one I like best from others. TP

My ideal offseason

Celtics win lotto and grab Ingram/Simmons with 1st pick (not sure why in people's dream scenario they only get the 2nd pick)

Mavs miss playoffs and we get 13th pick and choose Timothy luwawu as a draft and stash

Celtics pick domantas Sabonis/ ante zizic with their pick as draft and stash

Tyler zeller and Evan turner don't resign leaving 2 spots available
amir Johnson option is declined opening playing time for mickey

Sully is traded to make room for al horford

Al horford signs with us

C = Al horford, Kelly olynyk
PF= Amir Johnson, Jonas jerebko, Jordan mickey
SF = Jae Crowder, Ben Simmons/Brandon Ingram
SG= avery Bradley, RJ Hunter, James young,
PG = Isaiah Thomas, Marcus smart, terry rozier

Sign Horford. Get lucky with the #2 pick Ingram.
Draft Valentine. Draft and Stash Jeanne.

 Horford
 Ingram
 Crowder
 Bradley
 Thomas

 Kelly, Mickey, Smart, Valentine, Rozier

Eventually Ingram take Crowder's spot and we actually have size in our starting five.

 Horford
 Kelly
 Ingram
 Bradley
 Thomas

I think Ingram starts on the bench, but otherwise this seems not only ideal, but actually very plausible.  Come on ping pong balls!

Draft Simmons at #1. Sign Durant, Horford in free agency.

The Bulls decide they want to go into a full rebuild mode and they move on from both Rose and Butler. We trade IT, Bradley and 2-3 firsts to the Bulls for Butler. After all, rumor has it that Danny was after him at the trade deadline.

We resign Turner and we let Amir, Sully, Zeller, Jerebko walk.

Smart, Turner, Rozier
Butler, RJ, Young
Durant, Crowder
Simmons, Mickey
Horford, Kelly

Fill the remaining roster spots from the draft.

Step 1: Make it to the Eastern Conference Finals after a hard-fought series win over the Raptors, and push the Cavs to six or seven games in a tough series. Show potential free agents that we have an excellent core and foundation, and we're just a couple of pieces away from being perennial title contenders.

Step 2: Win lottery. Start a bidding war for the number one pick.

Step 3:
Option A - Trade 2016 Brooklyn 1st, 2016 Dallas 1st, Johnson, Sullinger, and Rozier to Sacramento Kings for Demarcus Cousins.

Option B - Trade 2016 Brooklyn 1st, 2016 Dallas 1st, Johnson, and Bradley to Chicago Bulls for Jimmy Butler

Step 4:
Option A - Sign Kevin Durant for a max contract.

Option B - Sign Al Horford for a max contract.

Step 5: Resign Turner.

Option A lineup:

PG - Smart, IT
SG - Bradley, Turner
SF - Crowder, JJ
PF - Durant, Mickey
C - Cousins, KO

Option B lineup:

PG - IT, Smart
SG - Crowder, Turner
SF - Butler, JJ
PF - KO, Mickey
C - Horford, FA

#1 - The Nets finish with the 3rd worst record and the Celts get the #1 overall pick.  The Mavericks deliver pick #14.  The Celts pick ends up at #25.

The Celtics trade picks #14, #25, #35 and #58 to  New Orleans pick at #6

With the #1 pick the Celtics select Ben Simmons

With the #6 pick the Celtics select Buddy Hield.

The Celts use pick #31 select AJ Hammond, the rest on draft-and-stash.

#2 - In free agency resign, the Celts wipe the slate clean a bit by declining options for Amir Johnson and Jonas Jerebko and allowing Tyler Zeller to sign elsewhere.

Jared Sullinger signs a three year deal with an annual value of $8-9 million.

Evan Turner signs a three year deal with an annual value of $7-9 million.

#3 Sign Free Agents
I have two ways at looking at free agency depending.  Everybody's dream it seems to be Al Horford and Kevin Durrant which is an option we could go for, but Horford is on the decline and wouldn't want to give him a max deal  But if it gives us Durrant I'll pay this price.

My idea I'd be liking to do.

Hassan Whiteside signs a 4 year deal with an annual value of $12-15 million.

Harrison Barnes signs a 4 year deal with an annual value of $12-15 million

Opening Night Roster:

Guards: Thomas, Smart, Bradley, Hield

Wings / Swing: Crowder, Simmons, Barnes, Turner, Hunter

Bigs: Whiteside, Sullinger, Olynyk, Mickey,

#4 Trade - Terry Rozier and James Young for future picks.

Starting Line Up
Center - Whiteside
Power Forward - Simmons
Small Forward - Barnes
Shooting Guard - Bradley
Point Guard - Thomas

Second Unit Line Up
Center - Olynyk
Power Forward - Sullinger
Small Forward - Crowder
Shooting Guard - Hield
Point Guard - Smart

Bench Depth
Guard - Turner
Guard - Hunter
Forward - Mickey

Another pretty good option, nice job.  My only quibble would be I wouldn't resign Turner if he's deep on the bench, probably just keep Rozier for that role.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I wouldn't trade #1 overall straight up for Cousins or Butler, let alone package it along with other significant assets.

I'd rather see Stevens mold a young superstar prospect from day 1.

I understand why people are putting Durant in their "ideal off-season" scenario.  I don't think there's even a remote possibility, so it's not in mine.

You are definitely not crazy. In fact I wouldn’t trade #2 either. I only do it if Durant promises he will sign with us provided that we get the deal done.

Absolutely, and I'm not gonna tell other people not to put Durant on their wishlist.  I just personally prefer to envision the scenario without Durant, because I'm pretty much convinced he's staying in OKC for another year.

I'm not a big fan of this draft at all, which is why I would make that trade. Now if we were talking about a potential Towns or Wiggins-like pickup, that would be different. But I'm really not that high at all on Simmons, and though I like Ingram, I don't think it's a guarantee that he reaches the level of a Butler or Cousins (potential trade targets). Also, the current makeup of our team would benefit so much more from a Cousins-type acquisition than a draft pick that won't really contribute all that much to us winning for another several years.

Also, the current makeup of our team would benefit so much more from a Cousins-type acquisition than a draft pick that won't really contribute all that much to us winning for another several years.

I like Simmons (maybe Ingram not sure) at least as much as Wiggins / Jabari, though maybe not as much as Towns.

My preference would be to get an elite prospect like that under team control for many years to come.  I'm not especially confident Cousins would stick around in Boston beyond his current contract.  At the very least, the team would be laboring under the cloud of his free agency for most of a year unless everything were 100% peachy, which it is unlikely to be because he's Demarcus Cousins.

As for Butler, I love his game, but he's played a lot of minutes already and I wonder if Thibs already got the lion's share of Butler's best basketball.  I'm also a little bit uneasy about the fact that Butler only took the leap to superstar level play a year or so ago.  Feels more tenuous, especially since injury issues are already cropping up for him.

The idea of watching Stevens get to shape an elite talent from day one just sounds really exciting to me.

What I like about that scenario in particular is that it would shift the focus from trying to make a leap to contender status right away to assembling a young group of players on the same timeline as the guy we draft.

I like the pieces Ainge has assembled so far, but I'm not as confident as some people that this is a simple matter of plug in an All-Star center and away we go.

So anyway, I mean, if the Celts get the #1 or #2 overall pick, that's a great outcome either way.  You're not complaining if they draft Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram, and you're not complaining if they trade the pick for Cousins or Simmons.  You've got an exciting, relatively young star either way.

I just really like the idea that we could have a Boston version of Pop-and-Duncan, watching our wunderkind coach build up a #1 overall pick into superstardom.  I also feel more comfortable with the inherent risks of that route, compared to trading for a volatile star on a shorter deal.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.
