IT VS Lowry = Slight edge Tor
AB vs Derozen = edge Tor
Crowder VS Carroll= Even
Amir VS Scola = Even
Sully VS Valanciunas = Even

Bench
Smart,Turner,Jerebko, KO, Zeller

VS

Joseph, Ross, Jones, Patterson, Biyombo

Slight edge to Boston

Our starting back court of IT and AB will likely struggle with Lowry and Derozen when they post up, a double team will need to be sent . I would like to see Brad sub Smart for IT around the 5 min mark in the 1st because I think he should get as much time as possible when Derozen and Lowry are on the court together . By subbing him in early it moves AB to guard Lowry and puts Smart on Derozen which are much better matchups defensively .

Of course you probably have to sub in Turner with Smart so you have enough ball handling/playmaking while IT goes to the bench .

Then you would have something like

AB vs Lowry
Smart vs Derozen
Turner vs Carroll
Crowder vs Scola
Sully vs Val

I like those defensive matchups a lot better.

IT gets a 5 min of game time rest , plus the 1st quarter break to be rested up right when Lowry and/or Derozen are about to take their rest at the start of the 2nd quarter .

Do the same thing in the 2nd half , and then play offense/defense subs with IT and Smart down the stretch .

I think this is the only shot at beating Tor in a 7 game series because of the size disadvantage in the starting back court .

Thoughts ?

I think we can take them.

I think we can beat any team on any given night.  If we play the way we've played over the last 20, we could even shock the Cavs.

I think this whole match up comes down to the advantage lowry and derozen have against our back court. particularly derozen over AB or smart.

so far this season that back court has been the difference in their victories over us.

is there a way to look up stats for individual players when they are defending a particular player? .

Would love to see how smart and AB watch up with Lowry and Derozen

Said it before, and I'll say it again.

Raptors are good in the regular season, but they choke in the playoffs.

Is it the coach, the starting five excluding their back court, or just their lack of clutch plays?

Honestly DeRozan/Lowry aren't even that special to me, I'm sorry. Lowry/DeRozan has been awesome this year, but honestly, I don't really see them as much of a threat.

IT - Lowry= Lowry
AB- DeRozan= DeRozan
Crowder - Carroll= Crowder. Caroll has been a huge disappointment.
Amir - Scola= Amir. Raptor players have commentated how much they miss Amir's presence. Scola has been very good surprisingly, and his added 3pt/improved mid range has helped space the floor, but hes still a horrible defender, and he won't be seeing that many minutes in the playoff due to his weakness on the defensive end.
Sully -Valanciunas= Even, although like Caroll, Valanciunas has always been a disappointment. He was supposed to be the upcoming talent, but has regressed offensively, being unable to step up as the clear cut big man on their team.

  • That's turrible
Should we factor in Carroll yet? I thought he was injured to the point where he'd miss the season. And he definitely won't be 100% if he's back in time for the postseason. Crowder definitely wins the small forward matchup

Crowder wins that matchup, anyway.

I think he will be back for the playoffs .

Saw this on his ESPN bio

Carroll (knee) took part in one-on-one drills at practice Saturday, Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun reports. (about 3 hours ago)

Match ups...adjustments...crunch time closing...home court

Need to have the edge 4 times

TtOR has more playoff experience than BOS

I think they are more or less even.  Based on how they have played recently, Celts might have the edge.

well weather that matters or not, I watched those games and lowry and derozen won those match ups easily enough.

I think it's safe to focus on who the Celtics 1st-round opponent is first and worry about Toronto later. The 3rd seed is not a lock yet.

Detroit/Charlotte/Indiana are a bunch of tough customers as well.
