While league sources indicated that, in the words of one, “nothing is really hot with Boston,” Danny Ainge and Co. are still said to be working to pry loose something major. In that vein, for example, Doc Rivers has said the Clippers aren’t trading Blake Griffin, but it’s a fair bet the Celtics will revisit the topic before the clock next strikes 3 p.m. EST Thursday.

It would take someone on Griffin’s level to get Ainge to part with the first-round pick from Brooklyn, but sources tell the Herald it would definitely be on the table in that case
.

Quote
That would not be so for some of the other very good, but not transcendent types that have also been discussed with the Celts. The pick would not be in play for Al Horford, but that matter seems moot anyway. The C’s have had no recent talks with Atlanta about him, and, in addition to what the Hawks might want should they move him, it is clear from sources that the Celts are not willing to pay the 6-foot-10 center big money when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

Quote
And word is the Celtics would also be unwilling to part with the Nets’ pick if the Cavaliers choose to be more interested in making Kevin Love available. The C’s have never really stopped being interested in Love after their hot pursuit in the summer of 2014 when he was with the Timberwolves, and it was reported here that if Cleveland didn’t come through with the big contract last summer, Love would have been looking at Boston as a landing spot.

But now with his large deal in place and physical questions (sources say a knee problem may be more of an issue than his back or shoulder), how much would the C’s be willing to offer? And, again, that presupposes the Cavs change their stance and look harder and what Love could bring back on the open market.

Clippers are not giving up Griffin just bc of one incident(poor judgement outside the court)

I mean Griffin is no model citizen but he hasn't got into many problems outside of this last one

Clippers are a contender and last thing they will do is retract

I mean notthing is impossible

Maybe the Nets 1st, an additional 1st, Sullinger (sully and Jordan would work out great in theory), Zeller and Turner (clips were interested in signing him to a vet min before)/could get docs attention

Trade idea

To clippers : 2 2015 1sts (including Nets), Sullinger, Zeller, Iee, Turner, 2 2nds

To Celtics: Griffin, Aldrich, Stephenson , johnson

clippers would need to get back a melo type player. CP3 isn't getting younger and they have maybe a 3 year window to win a title .

would have to be a 3 team trade

The chances that the Brooklyn pick will ever be a better player than Love is probably something like 10%. Trying to underbid for assets in a market where there are more buyers than sellers is a recipe for getting nothing done.

I don't believe we wouldn't give up the Brooklyn 1st for Love.  Posturing.

We wouldn't trade the pick for horford, though.

My first reaction was the same. But from what I've read, Danny goes into negotiations with concrete values set on all of his assets. If he has actually indicated  (which it seems he has, according to both Woj and Bulpett) that he wouldn't trade the pick for Love, I'm not sure that's likely to change.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I doubt Ainge is tipping his hand to anyone but I can believe the logic.  If you knew the Nets pick would wind up 5 or 6, it's easy to trade that for love.  But if it winds up 1 or 2, that's the kind of asset that could either be your franchise for the next decade+ or land you someone like Cousins or Westbrook.  As well positioned as the team is, there's no need to gamble.

Keep the pick.
Love is overrated.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Danny probably loves one of Ingram or Simmons-perhaps both.
Waiting and seeing what happens with the Nets pick has some obvious 'gamble', but Danny likes to roll the dice.

If the Nets finish 3rd worst, we've got a 31% chance at Ben or Ingram.
If the Nets finish 4th worst (the most likely outcome IMO), wr have a 25% chance at one of those two guys.
The other outcome is that we get the 3rd pick (45% chance of top 3 if Nets finish 3rd worst, 38% chance if they finish 4th worst), and that pick still has tremendous trade power to someone like New York if Melo decides to accept a trade to Cleveland....eg
Cavs get Melo
Boston gets Love
NYK gets #3 + Olynyk+ Dallas pick

And in my opinion, this scenario is much more likely.

We need that pick to land in the top 3 to keep it at a minimum Kevin Love level trade value, and probably top 2 if we want a Griffin level top 10 player.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I agree with this.

I wouldn't give up the pick for Love, Horford or Howard I don't think.  I see either of those guys as a short-to-medium term investment, wheareas if we got a #1 or #2 pick in the draft we could get a star who might potentially be a cornerstone for the next 10 years.

Rabb and Bender are pretty good too.

Absolutely no reason to give up the pick for an expiring.

Beginning of the year, I would believe that.

As this season has gone on, I starting to think that 1st at the deadline would be off the table.

Come draft season, whole new ball game.
