I honestly think the Nuggets don't want Gallinari or Faried. I don't think they are viewed as part of the future, but they need solid veteran players to help the development of their young bigs and Mudiay.
It's obvious that Griffin does not fit their timeline either.
Ainge is talking to both teams about this. He has to be. This is exactly the situation that we have been waiting for.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=h9c35ta To Clippers: Gallinari, Faried, Bradley
To Nuggets: Sullinger, Jerebko Young, Lee, 2016 Dallas Pick, 2016 Celtics pick, 2016 Minny pick (probable second rounders)
To Celtics: Griffin, Stephenson
How do the Clippers say no to that haul? They are a better team in that trade.
Gallinari and Faried are good players, but Jokic, Nurkic, King Jeffrey, Harris, and Mudiay are the core of that roster. They just need players around them so that they can develop without too much pressure. Sullinger and Jerebko take some pressure off of their big guys. I originally had Bradley going to them too, but they really like Harris and Foye is kinda' the pressure valve at that position right now. Barton's scoring on the wing largely frees them to trade Gallo too.
I don't love Stephenson, but he is a player option that is similar to Johnson's contract. By my count, we would stiil have close to enough to offer a max (or close to it) if we renounced Stephenson, Amir, Turner, and Zeller. We would still be in the mix for Horford, Durant, Batum, Parsons, Barnes, Beal, and Ezeli, probably focusing on getting Durant and then Batum to fill in on the wing.
And I think the Clippers do not care about picks. Rivers does not want to develop rookies. Paul can't wait until he is 35 for rookies to get better. On the flip side, the Nuggets probably can't expect a Brooklyn pick for Gallo and Faried. Even if they did want one, I would be more than willing to send them 2018 Brooklyn pick instead of the Dallas pick this year.
