So does Stevens win the coach of the year award if we end up with the third seed in the East at the end of the regular season? I think due to their situations and the fact that they only coached half of the year each, both Lue and Kerr won't, or at least shouldn't, be considered.

So, essentially it would be a three-man race at that point: Pop, Casey from Toronto, and Stevens. All three of those coaches are good candidates for the award, but given the context of our team and what we're working with, I think you can make just as strong of a case for Stevens as either of the other two.

What do you think?

It usually goes to teams that overachieve so yeah he'd probably win if we finished 3rd. Our roster doesn't look like the roster of a 3 seed.

The answer to the COTY question is Popovich and I'll hear nothing different.

I would put Carlisle in consideration.  Def did not see them being 6th in the west.

I don't know - seems like an award they like to spread around when possible - kind-of like Brady and all two of his MVPs.

I think Casey is your man in this case, but Pop could win it just about every year.

Are they really going to overachieve that much, if at all?  Their vegas season win totals was 42.5 and 538's CARM-ELO projection was 49 wins..... I would imagine they are going to fall somewhere in that window.......

You may very well be right.  I think there should be exceptions for stupendous, historic seasons.  I'd say give it to Kerr or Walton, but I don't think only one of them can take credit for this season.

Maybe a joint award to the both of them?

In the absence of rewarding the Warriors with MVP and COTY, I'd give it to Pop.  As you say, he's always qualified for it.

DPOY, by the way, is pretty obviously Kawhi's award.

Aside from ROY and MIP, the Warriors and Spurs should sweep the major awards.

6MOY will probably go to Kanter or Barton.  I say what the heck, though, give it to Manu or Iggy.

Buford wins Exec of the Year by a mile. I could coach the spurs the way they are constructed..

Terry Stotts should probably be in the conversation. What he has done with them is a miracle.

I think Pop and Casey are more deserving as of right now. There are still a lot more games to be played though.

I'm okay with either Pop or Casey winning it, too, because they both have excellent claims for the award.

For this award in particular, I like to see it going to those teams who overachieved or had lesser talent on their roster. Pop is without a doubt an excellent coach, but he's also got a ridiculous amount of talent on that team. Casey's Raptors have more talent than us, but it's not by all that much combined.

I would also be okay with a Kerr/Walton mix for the award. They obviously have a ton of talent on that team, too, but they're legitimately going to be an all-time great regular season team, with an excellent chance at actually being the best regular season team of all-time (best record anyways). That deserves an award, especially Walton's part in the process.

I don't know about the Toronto coach, but I think we need to pile up wins like Atlanta did last year.  If that happens, Stevens wins the award. He might even win it if we reach 50 wins. Yes, I agree he is in the running and a top finalist, on paper.

Bring on LeBron. I am not afraid. This team is starting to gel. Losses here and there will probably still happen, but we might be a top five NBA team right now despite the standings. I am providing my power ranking eye test. The Celtics are a tough out in a brutal league.

I would bet money Stevens wins it. Not talking gamble your money away, but I think he can win that meaning we are going to win a lot of games.

Even the MIP part one could disagree with. Does anyone look more improved this year than Curry?

ROY can go to Kevon Looney or Jonathan Simmons lol. Full award sweep by the top two teams in the west haha!
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about
