  David Lee is actually a pretty solid defender near the rim.  His problems arise in that teams force big men to defend away from the hoop.  His rotations, defending the pick & roll, pick & pop and face up defense away from the hoop are horrible.  He absolutely can't defend the PF position in this league anymore with all the stretch guys PF's must defend on a nightly basis.  Offensively he is an even bigger problem than on defense.

It's pretty hard to adequately measure "rim protection" with stats.

Lee might do okay when he actually contests at the rim, but how is he at staying in front of his man?  Switching onto quicker players?  Closing out on the perimeter?  Help defense?  Etc . . . .

I had it with statics!.
All those crazy stats telling me the Celtics are 2nd best team in east, always favorite to win and other crazy stuff like that.

you can find stats to support whatever it is you wan to claim.

His defense at or very near the rim I have never had a problem with.  He is very physical and gets guys to miss at a solid rate.  However he sucks at pretty much every other aspect of team defense.  Rim protection just like most advanced stats can be very deceiving, but in Lee's case I will give him credit for that as my eyes tell me he does a pretty solid job very near the rim  (when he is there that is LOL).

Believe it or not...Imagine Lee is our best rim protector, that's how limited our bigs are, it's actually funny.
