If you need a Center. Play Simmons at center.

If you need a point guard, take Simmons.

Celtics needs a rebounder. 13 a game for Ben. Need a passer 4.5 a game.

20ppg. Great defender. Could care less about the shooting right now, he just dribbles wherever he wants and shoots a bunny everyone.

That's what I would do to if I was 6'10" with Lebron like athletism. Can't fault him for being overpowering.

This was Bobby Knight talking to a Freind before the Jordan draft.

His Freind said Bobby we need a Center, he said play Jordan at center.

I think it might be a good idea if all of us Celtics fans start to wean ourselves off the idea of getting Ben Simmons. Boston needs the No. 1 pick to make that happen—well, it seems like Brooklyn will have pretty low odds of getting it for us, and whichever team gets that No. 1 pick would probably trade it only for an elite guy like LeBron, and we don't have an elite guy like LeBron.

That wasn't just some friend. That was the then-Blazers GM Stu Inman in 1984 and it was after Knight coached Jordan in the summer Olympics of '84 leading up to the draft.

Even though Bowie looked like a promising prospect whose career was derailed by injuries, they still took him over the best player of all time.

LOL. TP.

But seriously, I can't see a realistic way of landing Simmons.

I am fully on the Simmons bandwagon.  Come deadline time the celtics should be doing everything they can to get as many shots at the #1 pick this year if Simmons promises he is coming out.  There is no other player like him.

Winning the lottery is a realistic way to get him and Brooklyn right now has a 15.6% shot of doing that.  Can you see a realistic way of drawing a king or ace out of a deck?  Because their odds are a hair better than that at the moment.

lesson to be learned? draft bpa, not based upon need.

Hell yes!  Bigger than one in a million too.  By like, 3 times bigger.

...in all seriousness the most likely scenario is we don't get him.  But we've got a decent shot for sure, especially if Brooklyn can hang around 3rd worst.  And some of the second tier guys look pretty solid too.

Anything can happen—for example, Lopez could go down and maybe Johnson is traded, and Brooklyn ends up with the second- or third-best shot at Simmons. Right now, though, I think Brooklyn's actually playing okay—they're suffering a lot of close losses—so I can easily imagine the Nets "falling" to only the sixth- or seventh-worst record, which drops their odds to 5.3%—which is to say, there's a chance, but let's not get our hopes up.

Edit: Make no mistake—I'll be thrilled if they land the top pick and Boston gets Simmons. And I'll gladly eat crow if that's what happens.

TP for the Shawshank.

I've decided there's no harm in getting my hopes up as long as I'm ready to face the conseqences later. Besides, as of today there are only 2 teams with better odds of getting Simmons.
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, 2024
