It's great to see a trade where all three players are terrible defensively. This is the ultimate rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic situation. Having said that, Jefferson does have value as an interior scorer,so it's hard to see why Charlotte would do this for less than our own pick or maybe the Dallas pick plus Lee and Zeller. As for the Celtics, we need to set our sights higher than AJ. Interesting idea for discussion.

Zeller may be better than AL now. With AL declining and injured of course. Was a bug fan of Al but right now I pass unless C's get a pick.

There's no such thing as passing on this trade... I would do this deal even if Big Al was just coming back to retire after this season...the trade would still be worth it considering how little both Lee & Zeller mean to the team right now.

Big Al will come back after 6 weeks and give us low post scoring which will help guys like Olynyk get more opportunities to space the floor (more 3s). I'm all for this idea. Signing Al to a two or 3 year deal in the offseason would get us some well needed help at C, while Ainge continues to look for our C for the future (long term)

Let's take advantage!!!  The Hornets have lost 5 in a row, 8 of their last 10, and 10 of their last 13!!!!

MJ desperately WANTS the Hornets in the playoffs at ALL COSTS!!!!!

Big Al for Lee (out of the rotation) Tyler!!!!!

Do it now Danny or you could what for them to lose at the Clippers and then to the Nuggets in a back to back:-)))

Thoughts??

Do you really want Al J back here?  He's pretty banged up.  I like Al J but the internet is like the movie airplane sometimes where people are coming in from all different directions that I don't understand.

I sense that the recent Big Al proposals are from people who don't really follow the league that closely. Jefferson isn't the same player anymore and he might not be fully healthy even when he does come back. I suppose if there really is no better deal Lee's contract could be used for by the deadline, we might as well do it, but I hope Celtics fans aren't expecting the Jefferson of old.

Remember Antoine Walker: The Return? This is starting to feel like that.

Drug suspension notwithstanding, has Big Al been there for his team when needed during the last 2-3 seasons? Injury ruined their chances of stealing a game against Miami two years ago (maybe three, I don't remember) and the following year his injuries throughout the season hurt the team even more.

Your stats are great, but I'd be curious to see how many of those games Big Al played in. Remember, he has been injured for a significant portion of the season so far, and only after he was placed back on the active roster did he serve his five game suspension. I wouldn't be surprised if the team dipped when Big Al came back. Why would we want that?
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!

isn't this like the 3rd or 4th recent thread where this trade was proposed?

I like Big Al, appreciated him during his time in Boston and wish him the best during his career and life but I really think his time in Boston is over.

Such a trade would be acknowledgment of a failed strategy IMO. They swapped Wallace on the bench for Lee playing games with the hope that that would help to grease Lee's value in making a bigger trade work. So they gave Lee moderate showcasing minutes at the expense of their young bigs.

If now they simlply flip him for yet another old guy on a big contract, that'll mean Lee had become so negative in the locker room that they didn't even want to wait out the trade season for opportunities to move him--let alone keep him on the roster to the end of the year.

(I do think all the signs of a souring locker room will push Danny to make a trade sooner rather than possibly waiting for top dollar later, however. Any success on his part in consolidating assets will IMO be very expensive, since no teams want to do the opposite.)

Don't worry there will be 5 more before the trade deadline. And 6 more Jae Crowders.
No reads before they post Any more. I am posting on this thread but i am going to start bring up the last thread on the subject like SOSH.

To me the injuries make Big Al a non option for the Cs. If he was healthier and just experiencing a post 30s down turn I would be open to a trade for him something like Lee, Young and Dallas 1st. Even if a only a 1/2 season rental a healthy big al would help this team greatly as a offensive focal point.

With the current state of his health I expect Big Al stay with Charlotte this season and signs a ring chancing deal next season maybe with the Clippers or the Spurs (if Duncan retires).

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
I'd rather try to snag Batum, MKG, or Jeremy Lamb.  Big Al might be gettable without losing any current rotation guys, but he's not likely to be worth what it would take to resign him.

Honestly with Al out 6 weeks and his declining play with injury concerns you can almost make a case as it being a wash with Lee straight up with both deals expiring.  Now add in Zeller's restricted status who I think is still a high level backup C, and a starter on last year's playoff team still in his mid 20's maybe you can get a future protected first out of the deal.  Otherwise I don't think it's worth it and rather hold on to Zeller for maybe a better package down the line.

That'd be amazing if Big Al played as effectively as Antoine after his return to Boston. If not for a total immature PP, we would have gone on to the 2nd round of the playoffs that year. And in the next year, Antoine played third fiddle to Shaq and Wade on his way to a championship.

As for Al, I can't imagine he would be awesome, but I am sure he still has some nifty move in the post - anything to give this offense another option. Lee and Zeller really don't have a future in Boston.
