I think we will boo him until the 4th quarter, then probably cheer for him

Of course.  He'll get good treatment from organization and fans.

I couldn't care less.  He's just a basketball player and one who played for a despised organization.  Hope  he has a good life but don't really feel need to show gratitude.  Hope he's a good father and husband -- way more important than  being a great basketball player.  BTW, pretty much feel same way with Celtics tributes -- no need for a big fuss.  Dreading listening to a full season of David Ortiz tributes.

I'd sure hope so.

He "did" wear BOS Green for a bit:

But anyways he played "The Villain" role to the hilt for me...there was NO OTHER Laker I worried about during the Paul-KG-Ray era.

He carried that torch well, and was / is a once-in-a-lifetime player.

  • Yup
Lest we forget the Garden crowd once showered him with an MVP chant during the darkest of dark days.  Perhaps my least favorite Celtics moment ever.

He'll be cheered
Yup

Easily rock bottom for Celtics fans.  Was at that game in the balcony.  Awful.

I think he'll get his ovation but not to the degree that some of Boston's more recent rivals have. I don't think Kobe Bryant joins the ranks of Derek Jeter, Magic Johnson, or Peyton Manning as the one athlete Boston sports fans loved to hate year after year. Jeter, Magic, and Manning were constantly obstacles that the Boston teams had to fight tenaciously to get to the next level. I mean yeah we saw Celtics-Lakers in the finals a few years ago, but that rivalry lasted 3 years and then never came close to happening again. Jeter's Yankees, Magic's Lakers, and Mannings Colts/Broncos lasted for a long time.

Not to say I don't respect Kobe and his legacy. I just don't think he's made that kind of impact in Boston that the other ones have.

I think Mariano Rivera at '05 Red Sox opening day might be my favorite moment regarding Boston fans' reaction to a respected opponent.  The best part about it was that Rivera "got it" which endured him even more to people.

  • GOT IT!!!
The biggest gratitude we could give would be to heartily boo him.  I honestly think he'd appreciate that more than cheers.

Now this I can get behind. I don't know, I just don't view Kobe in the same light as other greats. He had amazing intensity to win but he wasn't a great teammate. Selfish players really get under my skin.

I sure hope so I would love it Kobe is the greatest player of my generation. I'm driving from New York with three of my friends two of them happen to be laker/Kobe fanatics so I can't wait. Of course on the way home after a Boston blowout win you can expect me to give them more than an earful of which they will be getting on the way in
