Since Marcus is still so young, there is still time for growth in his offense. However, from watching him play, I don't see him being much of a scorer any longer. He doesn't drive into the paint. The good news is his value is still high, so now may be the best time to trade him. My first call be to Philly for a Noel for Smart swap.

Didn't ainge already propose a trade like this last season

I think it was like smart + 16 + 28 pick
For Noel + 3rd pick

76ers were having none of this
As much as their team is a joke they still know a bad deal when they see one

Plus I think management like that they are tanking to gather more talent

Essentially, you suggest that we should trade him just because he won't be a good scorer in the NBA?
I agree with your thoughts on Marcus' offensive game, but we really don't need him to score with guys like Isaiah Thomas on this team. As long as he contributes in other aspects of the game we should keep him ;)

By the way, Avery was a pretty bad scorer too until his 4th NBA season hence that we should be patient with Marcus.

Shooting can be worked on.

Jason Kidd comes to mind .  Even Rondo shoots better.

Avery was so bad his first two years he didn't smell an offensive shot or even see the floor but in a very limited role.

Um, no. Bradley already shot 50% from the filed and 40% from three the first time he saw extended minutes in his second year. Stuff can sure be worked on, it's just that you usually tend to see returns pretty early on. If you start hoping year in and year out that someone's shooting "is bound to improve" ... it's probably just not happening.

NO GO...

He's never gonna be a stud of a scorer, but with the way he defends, harass, and gets steals, it inevitable some day he'll be part of a championship team. I'm hoping it's in Boston.

If Marcus could ever get his scoring average to 12-14 points per, he'd be the team captain.

So you don't think smart will be a scorer yet somehow the scouts will be fooled by his potential?  Um, okay.

Bottom line is this.  Other teams are not stupid.  Any trade we make, expect equal value in return (whatever that is).  For that reason, nobody on this team is untradeable. You don't make trades only when you think you can fleece another team.  You make trades based on the team, trading from a position of strength for example.

The way fans want to trade productive, talented young players around here simply because they think their value is high is positively comical. Its like those types of fans are little kids with a 5 second attention span that play with a toy for 5 seconds then throw it in the corner to play with the next toy. Sorry but professional sports doesn't work that way.

Marcus Smart will be a Boston Celtic for years to come. He's young, he's intelligent, he has a great work ethic, he's a defensive monster, he's a natural leader, and he has a developing offensive game.

Will he ever be Chris Paul like? Never. Could he some day be Chauncey Billups like? I think the chance of that happening and Smart having a Billups offensive game but a Gary Payton defensive game is quite possible.

You just have to give him time to develop and not be so freaking trade happy. Deciding to trade him after 12 games of his 2nd year is about as premature as it gets  for a player that has shown as much as Smart has regularly on defense and what he has shown in flashes on offense

If Smart needs to be part of a package to get a star (e.g. Cousins), I would have no problem including him.  I would do a straight up swap for Noel but I doubt Philly would.  However, I wouldn't just trade him because he's not going be much of a scorer.  I think his defense is more valuable than an equivalent player with offensive focus would be.

Boy, Marcus is a hot topic this morning.

I would have liked to see more improvement this year by Smart but I remain high on him.  I think this current team can afford to give him more time.  We are on a path of rebuilding, we don't need everything and every player to click tomorrow.

No one on the Celtics should be untouchable in terms of trading but Marcus is not someone I would be looking to trade.  There is still a lot of potential there, we will see if he realizes it.

young players need time to grow. Smart is currently a high quality role player and I think he has what it takes to become a star. But he needs to develop consistency.

Y'know, for all the flak we give KO about him needing to be more aggressive and look for his own shot (which he has done more this year, to his credit), I think the same can be said about Smart. MS is too quick to settle for the jumper or the three. He needs to post up more and look for contact more. He thrives off contact on D. I don't know why he doesn't do that more consistently on offense.

You could have said, other teams are not stupid, they would gladly take Smart from us so that he could shut down the Curry's and Westbrook's of the world.
