Danny Ainge immediately reached out to Kevin McHale following his dismissal from the Houston Rockets about a role with the Boston Celtics.

"I've always tried to get Kevin to come work with me and work with my big guys," Ainge told the Boston Herald. "I told Kevin that today. ... We've got a spot for him. I know we could figure something out for him in some capacity, but I think he's just in a wait-and-see mode.

"He appreciated me reaching out to him, but I think he's just going to lay low. He's probably got bigger and better things to do -- or more relaxing things to do."

The Dallas Mavericks also have interest in hiring McHale, who had him on payroll as a consultant in training camp in 2009.

"Maybe when the dust settles, I can get him out to teach the 'slippery eel' to Kelly [Olynyk] and Sully [Jared Sullinger] and Amir [Johnson]," Ainge told the Herald.

Offers to help a friend no surprise. I could see McHale doing it after he takes a bit of a break, it must be tiring to have your team utterly quit on you.

Knowing how subtle and crafty DA is in his wordings/GM speak, I'm wondering if Zeller's omission here is signalling his lack of future with the team/availability-- "Zeller won't be here, so no slippery eel for him"

And on that same note, I'm wondering if DA explicitly naming sully is his way of trying to drive up sully's trade value...

I'm all for bringing old Celtics back into the fold somehow. And with McHale's experience at basically every level of professional basketball, I'd love to have him in some capacity (especially if he's the #2 man at whatever position he would take).

I thought the same thing.
'Dust settles' could mean longer term clarity...maybe we are seeing Danny's long term vision?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
