Would you rather have Dallas suck this year so we don't get their pick this year, but a better pick in a few years, or would you rather have them be a middle of the road team and we get a pick this year around #14?

The pick is top 7 protected through 2020, and then unprotected in 2021, so we will almost surely not be seeing a top pick because I doubt they will be a bottom 7 team for 5 straight years. But we could be talking about a top 10 pick in a couple of years, and since we have so many picks this year with not a lot of bad players on our roster we can just get rid of, I hope Dallas is so bad this year that we don't get it.
CB Mock Deadline - Minnesota Timberwolves
Kemba Walker / Tyus Jones / Aaron Brooks
Jimmy Butler / Jamal Crawford / Treveon Graham
Rodney Hood / Nic Batum / Marcus Georges Hunt
Taj Gibson / Nemanja Bjelica / Jonas Jerebko
KAT / Derrick Favors / Cole Aldrich
Picks - 2018 CHA 1st (Lotto protected), none out

Given how many picks we have next summer, it would probably be better to get it next season. But I'd really just want to get the pick whenever its most valuable.

I'm leaning towards getting the pick this year, because my hunch is Ainge has his sights on a blockbuster trade for an all star this summer, followed by signing a max FA. I figure the more immediate assets we can use as bait, the better.

Bird in the Hand.  I almost always prefer good valuue ahead of possible better value.  It's mainly that I think Cuban will pay for talent and Dirk still has something in the tank -- there isn't really any greater likelihood of a better pick down the road.  With our pick and Dallas', and possibly Minny's this year, Danny will have trade chips to move up or trade for talent.

The other variable is the quality of the drafts.  That is something I know nothing about but am interested about what "experts" are saying about the anticipated depth and top-tier talent in next couple of drafts.   Also, wondering if the salary cap explosion after next season is going to cause some players to stay in school an extra year for a chance at significantly better rookie deal numbers in 2017.

They can always trade it if it comes in this year.

We have too much youth. I'd rather wait or consolidate for an established legit player. We have too much young players and too many picks, best to delay some of them or start to consolidate them, but I'm also wary of how we go about consolidating them and the opportunity cost.

The owner is a fanatic , it's his hobby ...it consumes him....He ll not let them sink and stink to bad or long.

I think their low point will hovering around the late lottery pick next couple years.

He'll keep his coach and upgrade Stars ASAP .    ......there might be a lottery pick window of 1-3 years.

I think we could land a very late lotto  pick with with the help of some u fortunate Dallas injuries late in the season.

After DeAndre Jordan slighted them, and Cuban started trying to hastily put together a competitive team together out of spite, I got the feeling that Cuban did that because he wants to just give us our pick, avoid tanking in one of Dirk's final years and move on with it. Before the Jordan saga, they had they full intention of giving up that pick this year anyways. The only way they can safely avoid giving us that pick this year is by being really awful, which would require Dallas to trade almost anyone good they have and go into a full rebuild. I don't think Cuban was ever ready to do that this year after signing Parsons last year to that huge deal and having Dirk be so under-paid to help you field a good team.

The way that team is built, they'll be right where we want them. Too good to finish in the bottom 7, but probably not good enough to make it in a loaded Western Conference (though considering NO's struggles, they could still make it). I've been predicting somewhere in the 8-13 range, and I can't see it being any lower than like 15 or 16 if every possible thing goes right for them. I think Cuban is content with just riding out this group, handing over the pick wherever it falls, and starting a rebuild next year. For all that Cuban is, he's not stupid. He knows that team is a 7 or 8 seed first round exit at best. Maybe he tries to add something mid-season again, but in his mind doing that is preferable to launching a full scale rebuild for a few years and still eventually having to hand over the pick.
