I'm not starting off this post complaining about any of the players, the coaches, Danny or the owners.  Rather, I am writing to state my feeling that this team might be the most entertaining sports venue in New England at the moment.

Yes, the Patriots are 6-0 and they've played a lot of great games with many dramatic moments.  They are an excellent team.  Perhaps, the best in the NFL.  On the other hand, a few weeks ago I happened to watch a whole game including the commercials because I didn't watch via DVR like I normally do.  Man, that game took forever and ever and ever to finish. Never do that again.  I felt like I was watching one continuous commercial...that was not fun!!!  Even though it was a great game I surely didn't come away feeling it was worth spending a whole afternoon of my time. As for the other New England teams? The Bruins are playing better of late (I think?).  And, the Red Sox...enough said.  The New England Revolution?  Are they still around?  Boston Canons, The New England Blackwolves (lacrosse), Connecticut Sun.

This year the C's won't be fighting for the best record in the NBA.  But, from where I'm sitting (8-10 feet from the TV), they are the most entertaining group because there is almost always continuous drama going on. For example, in the first quarter of the Spurs game both teams couldn't hit the broad side of the barn.  It goes on and on from both sides.  Never thought the quarter would end.  I kept thinking.."is this real?"  Even wondered if the  game might break a record for fewest scoring points in a quarter after watching the first 6 minutes.

The C's were obviously nervous going against a top contender.  It took them a while to realize their opponents were human and that they could play with them.  San Antonio also looked unnerved or intimidated by the Celtic defense.

As the game goes on the C's fall behind by 7-14 points.  Yet, they kept climbing back determined not to let the game become a blow out.  One had to cheer for them.  And, I'm sure they won the respect of the Spurs players at games end.

Even if I had paid to watch game at the Garden, just watching Marcus would have been worth the price of admission. Marcus pushing Ginobili(?) or ripping the ball out of an opponent's hands, diving on the floor to make another incredible steal.  The long three from the corner. They were down 14 and go and claw back to 4 points behind.  Then, LaMarcus hits like 6 straight shots and in my head I'm screaming...."take Sully out! take Sully out!, why isn't Jordan dressed? He should be in there!"

We saw similar drama in the first game.  The C's kept stripping the ball away any time Philly attacked the basket.  Okafor couldn't miss.  Yet, the Celtics kept pulling away.  I only watched the first half of the Toronto game.  That was tied up at the half.  That was pretty exiting too.

Thus, even though their record isn't 3-0 the Celtics have already provided an incredible amount of entertainment value.  Just read the comments on this blog.  Everyone is charged up even if it's often in a negative way.  The passion is most definitely there.

I would venture to say that the Celtics provide the most dramatic entertainment value of any team in New England.  The Patriots and Brady are still the best team.  But, to watch them for 3 hours ....no way!

I respect your opinion, but the Pats are the only team in New England right now that has all-time great players playing at an all-time great level.  The Pats are taking football to the highest level.  We need to appreciate them while they last.

The Celtics are a likable, scrappy team, and they aspire to play the game in a really appealing way, but the talent often gets in the way.

The Celts and Pats are head and shoulders above the Bruins and Sox, though.

This is how I see it at the moment in regards to excitement level.

1) Patriots (Brady, Belichick, Gronk, and a team in eff you mode right now)
2) Celtics (young, up & coming)
3) (tied) Red Sox/Bruins (sadly in the who cares department right now.  Both are real tough to watch)

It sounds like OP is more making an argument that football games are more inherently boring than basketball games than comparing the Cs and Patriots directly.

...and I'm totally on board!  I have no idea how anyone can watch a full football game without at least starting late on DVR and zipping through all the ads and stoppages.  Especially if there aren't a bunch of people around to socialize with.

I know a ton of people who would say the Bruins are the most entertaining team in Boston. Even more that would say the Patriots. And. I am guessing most here at CB would say it's the Celtics. I think it comes down to personal preference more than anything else.

BTW I don't know a single person that would say the Red Sox are the most exciting team in New England right now. Not one!

Easy. Use stoppage to make sure the toddler doesn't  set the house on fire, and get more beer. Baseball, on the other hand, is a completely different animal -- the ads may be more interesting than the "action".

I like watching football when I have other things to do.

It's also easier to get into football when you have a few fantasy football teams and access to multiple channels / NFL Red Zone.

Still, nothing the Celts can do on the parquet matches Brady to Edelman or Brady to Gronk.

The other day, I was watching a show with my 6-year old son when he asked me to fast-forward through the commercials. I explained to him that it was live, and you can't FF through a live show. So he said, "Well, just hit record and then you can fast forward it."

You're handling it wrong. Give the kid the matches up front. It'll only take them a few minutes to figure out that matches aren't fun, and it's unlikely that they'll burn down the house on the first try. Set the cat's tail on fire? Maybe. But not the whole house.

Naming tons of obscure Boston teams and skipping Boston Ironside (AUDL) and the Boston Whitecaps (winners of 2 of the 3 MLU championships)?

Blasphemy!

Sorry, my bad....TP for crediting both teams.

Said toddler doesn't need matches to set stuff on fire :P

Agreed.

We can make up lots of reasons, but at the end of the day, it doesn't get more interesting than a 7-0 Pats team that is going scorched earth after the Deflategate atrocity.

I would agree with all these comments.  The Patriots are truly an exceptional team.  We've been blessed, so let's enjoy the ride. My problem with the Patriots is that I just can't stand watching 3 hours of football at one time.  DVR is the answer.

Perhaps the motivation for writing this OP grew partly from my growing frustration of reading so many negative comments about the team on CB.  It's ironic that the games totally captivate everyone's interest, yet the scrutiny is unending.
