Quick recap:

OUT: Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry, DJ White, Jordan Crawford, Rajon Rondo, Jeff Green, Doc Rivers

IN: Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Tyler Zeller, David Lee, Jonas Jerebko, James Young, RJ Hunter and Jordan Mickey

IN: Nets '16 first, Mavs '16 first, Swap option for Nets '17 first, Nets '18 first, Grizzlies '19 first

IN: Sixers '16 second, Wolves '16 second, Mavs '16 second, Heat '16 second, Cavs '16 second
Wolves '17 second, Clippers '17 second, Cavs '17 second

Considering age factor, Ainge won only players trade. And on top of this Danny got 4 first rounders (i believe at least 3 will be in lottery), one valuable swap option and 8 second rounders.

I give him A+

Danny Ainge's legacy will be cemented with who we get from these Nets picks and the pick swap next season. I'm not as confident that the Nets are going to roll over (and in a weak conference) this season but there is bottom 5 potential from that squad right now and the future outlook isn't great. If one of these picks nabs an all star, it will have been one of the best deals in team history.

Nice recap, DCF.

One quibble — I'm not ready to concede Minn pick will a 2nd rounder. They only have to finish top 10 in the West. They have a lot of (mostly young) talent.

Unfortunately, we wasted the first of Brooklyn's pick with James Young...

a bit early to make final and defining judgement on this yet. who else did you think ainge should have drafted? and i mean at the time, no fair using 20/20 hindsight.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

aww we had a lot more in/out than that too.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

In Ainge's defense there weren't better options after James Young getting drafted. He went upside with that pick.

Young was a solid choice. My binky was Kyle Anderson that would have been a cheap Evan Turner replacement.
Rodney Hood was a more ready solid choice.

And Capella was a solid pick for an active athletic big man project.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

You literally named my top three [in order] at the time. TP.

As for Ainge - he has obviously been amazing these past couple of years, but it's the moves he makes (picks and trades of young players/picks) that will really decide the direction of this franchise.

Even Red made the occasional bad deal or bad draft choice (not saying JY was a bad choice, way too early for that pronouncement).

Best move Danny made this summer? No deal at all. He was under big pressure to make the "fireworks" trade, and I'm sure there was a lot of talk, but ultimately he wasn't impressed with anything offered.

I'm patient. Rick Pitino had a ten year guaranteed contract. He could've been patient, built a new team methodically. I was hoping he would. Instead, he flailed around trying to live up to his own hype. Ugly....

I'm patient, and I trust this front office. If no blockbuster deal was made, it's because none was on the table, or at least none that was beneficial to the Boston Celtics.

I don't necessarily see it that way. For all we know, the NBA 2016 and/or 2018 draft may have a bunch of duds in it. 2010 wasn't deep, 2011 was worse and 2013 wasn't great either. That's something that's beyond Danny's control. If he drafts badly that's one thing but a weak draft or bad lottery luck isn't something he can predict.

My take is that he almost definitely got the best assets that he could at the time. There are some exceptions but generally he's done very well in both trading and drafting. He can't control who is available on the market, how the lottery falls out or any of that. I think it's pretty safe to say that he's probably done about as well as anyone could imagine given the circumstances.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.
