Disclaimer: I hope Kevin Durant stays healthy this year.

However... if he re-injures his foot again, it would likely result in a 4th surgery for that same body part. Knowing the history of how big-men have been so sensitive to foot injures (i.e. Yao, Bill Walton, Embiid), would you be willing to trade the Brooklyn pick for a re-injured Kevin Durant?

I would still do the trade, but I think it's worth a discussion.

If Durant re-injures his foot, then I think we're entering territory where a comeback for him should occur in a situation where he can play fewer minutes and pick his spots, not be expected to carry a team.

So I don't think it'd make sense for the Celts to trade for him (though I don't think the Thunder would trade him, and besides he's a FA next summer).
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

yeah thats the problem. Hard to trade for a guy would could leave in a year. But it's also hard to give out an extension to someone who will be coming back at an unknown level. With the cap going up and our asset pile, I would probably roll the dice as long as doctors were telling me he would still be able to play close to where he was. The cap is going up, I hate to be pessimistic but given that everyone will have money, I don't think we can count on spending the money better than a questionable KD.

I think Durant wants to win enough so that Bird rights just aren't that interesting to him at this stage.  Accordingly, I think it much better to field the best team possible this year, and have the great draft picks going forward, to show him that he can win a title here.  Trading for a hypothetically injured Durant would only hurt both of those selling points.

Worth the risk if that's how it would work, but in the end he'd still have his choice of maximum salary offers from almost every team in the league.
