because they knew that the crowded roster would limit time and he would have to tough it out in maine-gotta keep the troops happy even the rookies

his contract was a record for a 2nd rounder,i think ive seen it in print he got more than rj and mickey was quite upset at his draft position
 so to soothe ruffled feathers the celts signed him for more than the normal 2nd round contract

DA was always generous with the rookie contracts, considering the amount rookies get paid as compared to others. If Mickey were to have signed a 2 year contract he probably would not have had much playing time. With a four year deal it gives time for mickey to develop and realize his potential on the Celtics roster rather than some other teams. There were also talks that DA promised he be picked @28 and that contract was make up for not delivering on that promise.

DA only paid more to get more years. Most second rounders who believe they should have been first rounders rather get the shorter deal, similar to KJ did with 7Sixers. Since the money was equal to first round $ Mickey and his agent had no objections to added years.
