 so to soothe ruffled feathers the celts signed him for more than the normal 2nd round contract

If Mickey were to have signed a 2 year contract he probably would not have had much playing time. With a four year deal it gives time for mickey to develop and realize his potential on the Celtics roster rather than some other teams. There were also talks that DA promised he be picked @28 and that contract was make up for not delivering on that promise.

DA only paid more to get more years. Most second rounders who believe they should have been first rounders rather get the shorter deal, similar to KJ did with 7Sixers. Since the money was equal to first round $ Mickey and his agent had no objections to added years.
