Its no question that there's an surplus of shooting guards who need minutes.

Yes or no? If no, why not? If yes, whats a break out year for Bradley.

I'm asking, because Bradley seems like the odd man out. And honestly, I think hes a complimentary role player that could excel. I could see Bradley improving his 3, and being a good decent 16-18 scorer.

If Bradley "broke out" (and we may have different definitions of that) he would be a guy on an exceptionally good contract.  At that point I would evaluate all options. Answer the calls. Maybe make one or two involving somewhat unhappy or disgruntled stars.

He improves every year. What's a realistic break out?

I believe Bradley only becomes expendable IF he becomes a key piece of a big trade or these rookie mature drastically (which will take couple seasons)  When looking at it this way, other then IT, AB Is the ONLY established guard on that team. I mean if you wanna give the youngies PT then go ahead but I think our W/L ratio drops in the negative favor if he's not playing. 40% 3 & D who established what he is as a player so far.

By No means he is the odd man out. Only Hunter and a possible FA can make AB expendable IMO

Avery is by no means our best player, but he is the heart and soul of this team.

I elect to keep him exactly as he is.  He's already "broken out" in my book.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I think 18 PPG with at least 2 assists with great defense would be a break out year.

I like Smart and Bradley back court. Very tough perimeter D.

I would like to keep Bradley in general. He's on a good deal, is a very good defender, and is one of our few, relatively, reliable shooters. I don't see the point in shipping him out just to give Hunter or Young minutes, not that that's what you meant.

Avery is OK.   Good jumpshot.   Good defender, but is undersized for a SG.    He'll need to show more than a jumpshot to "breakout"   Said during media day that he settled for jumpers too much and should attack more.   During pre-season he continued to settle for jumpers.

can't attack the rim when you can't dribble, pass, or finish at the rim..............

AB is staying at the Celtics because he deserves to and he is still the best starting option in his position. I would be very pleased if he started hitting more 3s. one of my main worries is that while we have a few players who can contribute points, IT is about the only one you can rely on game after game. If another player, other than AB, starts doing that then you might think about what you can do trade wise with AB.

If Avery Bradley breaks out, meaning he'll be quite better than he currently is, then... he'd pretty much be a star.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I think Avery has almost reached his ceiling in the NBA. 'Breaking out' for him is just unlikely because of the limitations in his offensive game.
*lack of handles
*lack of getting to the rim>then getting free throws
*reliance on 15 foot jumpshots as a huge part of his game while not being very good at them

I love Avery, but he's had his chance to break out. He's had way too many minutes as a starter already for a role player/6th man type of guy and we just won't see him improve much more on what he is already- an awesome role player.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Im buying low on his breakout as if he had a breakout it would probably be just more efficiency with his shooting

AB is a good role player and could help a contender
but i dont see him becoming a D-wade like people think he would become

I would not mind trading him for a 1-18 1st rounder or packaged in a bigger trade for a better player

with that said, I dont think we should just trade him to open up playing time
Hunter needs to earn his spot
Plus we dont have any guarantees that hunter will be better than bradley
so there is no harm in keeping him now but maybe trading him later when his contract looks more like a bargain

depending on the definition of breakout, I think he fits these scenarios:
- He's now worth more as a player than he's getting paid so he's plus for us as someone under contract for a couple more years.  Possibly a cornerstone player (but that would require a significant improvement this year -- better ballhandling, better passing, better range on jumpshot, ability to drive to the basket and finish or draw fouls)
- As a better player on a value contract, he becomes a much better trade asset to bring in a better player.

I think he is a good value for what he brings to the table.   He is a superb defender and growing into a competent shooter.  So I would keep him as long as the price is right.
