With our surplus of guards and power forwards, I know there will be a lot of natural speculation about some combination of Bradley, Turner, Olynyk and Sully getting shipped out.

However, I don't think any of those guys will net us anything decent.

I am starting to think our only hope of getting a quality player is by offering Smart.

I also think MAYBE that's why Ainge drafted Rozier.

I really like Marcus, but depending on the return, I wouldn't mind offering him if it meant getting a good return.

Perhaps offering Sully, Oly or AB in addition to Smart could work but I think Smart has to be our centerpiece to a valuable trade. Here are some scenarios I could think of:

Smart and Sully to Phoenix for
Bledsoe and Len
(creates room for Phoenix to go after Aldridge.)

Smart, Bradley and Sully to Utah
for Favors and Exum (play Favors at C)

Smart to Sacramento for
Rudy Gay

Smart, Sully and Olynyk
to Philly for Noel.

Smart to the Rockets for
Ariza and Capela (creates room for Rockets
to go after a big name FA)

Personally, I like the idea of going after Bledsoe and Len AND the one with Philly by going after Noel.

I wouldn't trade Smart for the Sacramento deal or the Houston deal. I don't think Gay is a good first piece of a puzzle as he showed in Toronto. I think Gay is a guy you consider when you already have 1-2 big pieces in place already and he could be the final one to put you over the hump ... but he is too difficult a player to control when he is the first piece ... I don't think Ariza / Capela are enough for Smart. I do like the idea of going after Capela but not at the expense of Smart.

I don't believe the Favors trade rumours. Utah are onto something down there. They have a group of guys who play well together and the foundation to build something special. Gobert, Favors and Hayward. I think those guys are off the table for anything less than a top 10 player in the league. So, I think they would say no to the Smart deal.

I think Phoenix rejects the offer as well. Bledsoe and Len together is a valuable package. I think you could maybe get one of those guys for Smart but not both. I am not sure how much interest an high-octane offensive team like Phoenix would have in defensive guard like Smart. My guess he is not really their type of player. I don't think Sully is a good fit for Suns' running game either. If they get Aldridge, then they have two PFs already better than Sully on their roster with Aldridge and Markieff Morris.

Some people think Philly would take a Smart + assets for Noel deal. I am a doubter on that one. I think Philly would want more than that for Noel. More of singular asset than a combination of lesser assets.

I doubt Smart's value is all that high.

If Smart is our only true trade bait, then I think we need to explore the lotto. Also I think IT has to be right there with Smart or maybe more because of his contract.

I think Ainge would be doing a great job if he traded IT ET AB Zeller and Sully/KO in exchange for picks, prospects, and unwanted contracts!
