I still am skeptical that Love is sticking with Cleveland, unless Lebron gets the coached fired, gets someone like Thibs hired, and convinces Love that the offense will be built around him more next season. Short of that, I just don't see Love hanging around.

I don't know with the report that he's told the Cavs he'll resign and now mingling with James pretty sure he's staying put. James is kissing his butt I'm sure.

Could the Cavs and Blazers do a double S/T of Love for Aldridge?

I doubt they can get under the apron far enough to receive a S&T player.

Thanks for answering.

I don't understand how the Cavs can add any additional talent with all their financial obligations (including if they resign Love.)

14 mil for Irving
5 million for Mozgov
9 mil for Varajeo
The 20 mil it would take to resign Lebron
The 20 mil it would take to resign Love
The max contract it would take to keep Thompson.

Not to mention the money it would take to keep or resign Smith, Shumpert and Dellavodova.

Where are they going to get the money to cover all of this without going into serious luxury tax territory?

Given they traded for most of these players or the players have been there for more than 3yrs, they have Bird rights for [dang] near all those players. Hence can go over the cap to re-sign them

Now with the money that core will command, they will be massively over the tax. I mean like Brooklyn Nets over the tax but Dan G doesn't care about playing tax dollars when he has cash cow Lebron and a legit contender.

They will only be able to add minimums, MLE and someone possibly from the Haywood contract if traded.

If I were Cleveland (and I'm not, nor anything close to understanding all the variables in the equation of an NBA transaction), I would sign Kevin Love to whatever contract he feels he wants (minus a no-trade clause), and promptly package him and whatever else Sac desires in a deal for Cousins.

I do not believe that Sacramento is going to part with Cousins for anything short of another high quality star and assets.  Draft picks, expiring contracts, and young promising talent (unless you're talking about a package from Phily that includes Okafor and one of either Embiid or Noel) is not going to get it done.

Problem is...you can't.

I believe that if you want to sign a player with the intention of dealing him, then this must be determined at the time of establishing the contract.  You can't just sign a guy, tell him he's going to play for you, then trade him elsewhere a month later.  I believe all player signings (at least with guaranteed players) have some form of time period you have to wait through before that player becomes eligible to be traded.

Plus much as I love Cousins, I absolutely do NOT like the thought of him being on the same team as guys like Lebron and Irving and playing under Blatt.  We can see clearly from past comments (from Love and Bosh) that playing with Lebron is an exercise in patience and sacrifice, and we all know that Lebron is a bit of a diva who likes to take his share of plays off and complain about everything that happens on the court.  Basically I think it's safe to say that Lebron has a special personality, and it would take a star with a special personality to be able to play alongside him.  I don't see the chemistry between LeBron and Cousins ever working - I think that's a disaster waiting to happen.

I could see Cousins working in Boston because we have a lot of hard working players, a very patient coach, and a history of winning.  I think it's the type environment he'd buy in to.  I could see him possibly fitting in LA, because I think he has the competitive fire to earn Kobe's respect (and vice versa).

I think New York with Melo would be a poor fit also (similar reason to Cleveland).

I think Cousins is one of those guys who really needs to be in the right place, and I think there are very few franchises that have the right personnel an environment to cater to his personality.

There is a moratorium on players being traded after they have been recently signed (unless its a case of sign and trade scenario), but this is merely a time formality and not a real obstacle to the transaction.  If signed in July, Love could be traded before the end of October?

In terms of how their games fit together, I do believe Love is a better fit for James than Cousins.  However, your argument on personality fit, to my eyes, is slightly weaker.  Love is very much a diva in his own right, and Lebron (while I agree is imperfect in many areas of character) is less of a diva than you describe.  I do not believe the chemistry issues with Cleveland would be demonstrably worse, or better, with Cousins than they were with Love.

My opinion (as amateurish as it is) is that Cousins would defer to Lebron (and perhaps even Irving), and provide a defensive, rebounding, and offensive threat superior to the Mozgov-Thompson combination, and provide the ability to carry the offense sans James and Irving, saving their legs throughout the season and during deep playoff runs.  Not that Love could not have accomplished the same to some degree had he been present and healthy.  A Cousins - Irving pairing is also a combination that can carry Cleveland deep into the future as Lebron ages and continues to play past his prime.

A combination of Love + his pick of Mozgov, Thompson, Shumpert, Haywood's expiring, future picks, would be far easier to sell to Sac fans and ownership than a half-dozen unknown draft picks in mid range, an expiring contract, and two or three promising 3rd-4th year players.

I guess technically "agreeing to resign" doesn't rule out the possibility that he'd work out a sign-and-trade.  Seeing as he sort of cost the Cavs the next NBA superstar (Wiggins), the least he can do is help the Cavs get a couple spare parts.   Give em Wallace + Bradley and let's call it a day.

That that photo was today.  Forget it, Celtics.  Unto the next one.
