Chad Ford and Ryen Rusillo on Grantland podcast

Really intriguing stuff here at about the 44th minute:

Basically they discuss Boston and the predicament they are in. Basically that making the playoffs was a huge mistake, that Danny is a great GM and a lot of other GM's are scared to do deals with him. Chad Ford, who after his comments I am sure is in personal contact with him, mentions that Ainge most likely regrets passing on the Greek Freak. It honestly sounds like Danny admitted it to him. They basically speak on the C's for nearly ten minutes and conclude that Boston is stuck because Danny gets just good enough players to be competitive and Stevens is a brilliant coach. They seem to think Boston will be stuck right where they are. Rusillo also mentions that nobody wants to come to Boston. Nobody. It is enlightening but depressing. Take a listen.

We will see this offseason if free agents want to come to Boston. I like Olynyk but it is clear we should have drafted Giannis at the time.

Ford always seems to have a solid idea as to Danny's intentions. They are both Mormons, and early in Ford's career he interviewed Ainge a number of times for ESPN. Listen to how he speaks about Danny. It sounds like they speak often.

It was a good podcast. God I miss Simmons, but at least Rusillo closed with what Simmons would have opened with, and that is Boston Celtics basketball.

They talked about Ainge dealing with smarter executives than ever before, and that these executives are weary of dealing with Ainge because he's outsmarted so many before, they don't want to be another victim of Ainge. Then they made the comparison to Jerry West who use to complain about how nobody wanted to deal with him after a while out of fear of being fleeced.

As far as the current state of affairs, they suggested that the Celtics are stuck in stagnation because they are drafting from the middle. But what they didn't talk about is the fact the Nets are a mess and that they could do the losing for the Celtics. That it's a likely scenario that  they could achieve high draft picks without losing. So it was very doom and gloom and negative.

Yes. This was the cold hard reality I was hit with yesterday. The draft picks didn't bother me because in the grand scheme of things they don't matter. What does is the C's are going to be a treadmill team for the foreseeable future unless they get a little luck. A little too good for their own good.

It sounds like the Nets have a good chance to resign Lopez and Young.  If that happens, they are in decent shape.  They had a good draft picking up RHJ and McCullough.
