                $67.1m               $89.0m

Boston: $42,301,398             $23,354,889
Chicago $63,965,681            $49,657,018

If I have the number right, the Lux Tax starts at about $77M so CHI would only have about $13M to go.  If they match a Max contract for Butler, they will be paying the tax for one year for sure and then probably able to manage their way back under for 2016/17 as their salary drops and the cap goes up.

This means CHI may be thinking what they can do to dump some salary:

Player                    2015-16       2016-17
Derrick Rose   $20,093,063    $21,323,250
Joakim Noah   $13,400,000
Taj Gibson       $8,500,000       $8,950,000
Pau Gasol        $7,448,760       $7,769,520
Nikola Mirotic   $5,543,725       $5,782,450

Maybe Pau and a pick to the Knicks?

I would love for a way for the Celtics to pick up a good player from them but I don't see any good fit.  And no, I do not see any chance in you know what that we are able to sign Butler or S&T for Butler.

Rose and Noah are falling apart , Gasol is old, coach tibs is gone. You could be the king here in Boston and it's all upside here,   tons of draft picks, Marcus Smart J Crowder defenseive  pit bulls, plus loads of draft picks and boy genius as your head coach more cap space in 2016 if we land one more stud we are finals bound. What's your pitch.
you must really want Butler based on starting several threads on acquiring him

for what?
Pau at 7.5 mil is great value. you certainly dont need to dump him. Mirotic is a nice value Gibson is a bit overpaid but not egregiously so. Noah and Rose are overpaid, but I think the best course of action is for them to ride it out and hope that they can get through a playoff run with Rose, Pau, Noah 100% healthy. Thats very unlikely but when healthy that team is a title contender.

As for us. I think Gibson could be a good target especially if we think we can sign Greg Monroe.

Gibson's defense and decent midrange jumper complement Monroe really well.

Noah is one that I would kick the tires on if we can get a guy like Love or Aldridge.

They just fired one of the best (especially defensively) coaches in the league, Noah is declining, Rose cant be depended on due to his health, and Gasol's days are limited.

The team doesn't have a lot of future really.
