Who do you think is the best commentator in the NBA past and present and out of this list who would be the best trio?:

Marty Glickman, Charles Barkley, Chris Webber, Marv Albert, Chick Hearn, Jeff Van Gundy, Hubie Brown,  Jack Ramsay, Bill Walton, Bill Raftery, Steve Kerr, Doug Collins, Steve Jones, Mark Jackson, Mike Fratello, Mike Breen, Dan Shulman, Kevin Harlan, Ian Eagle, Mike Tirico, Doc Rivers, Johnny Most, Mike Gorman, Tommy Heinsohn and Stuart Scott (i know he's not a commentator but I loved the guy)

My votes go to Scal, as a commentator he is great. I might get a bit of hate for this but I prefer Scal's commentary over that of Tommy's ( no disrespect though). I also feel Chris Weber and Reggie Miller are great.

Nobody wears better than Mike Gorman. Tommy's a comfortable old shoe as well.

If you watch enough League Pass, you realize just how good Mike Gorman is as a play by play announcer.

Mike Gorman and Jeff Van Gundy are an easy first two to  plug in for me.

You can call me a homer, but Gorman is just an outstanding play-by-play guy. Good voice, likeable, high character personality and always prepared for whatever game (or non-game) scenario he's calling.

As for JVG, he is BY FAR my favorite NBA color man. I think he often drops very subtantive commentary, and he has a sense of humor so he isn't all just technical basketball analysis.

The 3rd man in the booth is always tough for me. I can't stand Mark Jackson. I like C-Webb and Charles in studio a lot, but less so during game broadcasts. Maybe Greg Anthony? Always was a fan of him.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Play by play:

Kevin Harlan - you can hear the passion from his commentary.
Mike Breen - same.
The guy that commentates for the Nets - his voice is made for broadcasting.

Color commentary:

Jim Barnett: - Warriors color commentary. Very knowledgable. Can break down and describe plays for the casual fan.
Tommy: Ultra entertaining
Hubie Brown: Great in breaking plays.
JVG: Funny and fresh.

Sideline report:

Allie LaForce: All Star beauty.
Sideline reporter for the Spurs: Don't know who the person is, but if you interview Pop every game, you're an All Star.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.

SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal

Mike Gorman is cream of the crop for play-by-play.  nobody close to him.  listening to Breen on national telecasts makes me appreciate Gorman even more.

for color, I like Tommy because I'm a homer and find Scal and Max have their good points.  Nationally, I don't really find anyone I care for.  Maybe Hubie Brown if I had to pick someone.  hate Jackson and really didn't care for JVG before his comments about wanting superstars to get a free pass on fouls but since then I absolutely will not watch/listen to a telecast he's doing.

I think that Jackson and JVG have been terrific this series.  Not afraid to criticize the refs or the superstars.

I'm being as unbiased as possible when I say this, but I can't think of many guys on Mike Gorman's level in any sport.  He's a pleasure to listen to.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Obviously, Mike Gorman - true professional, but you know who he is rooting for. Mike Breen is also noticeably very good at what he does.

I have always been a huge Bill Walton fan. It may just come from the older NBA 2K games, but his commentary is always informative and full of emotion. I can also see JVG filling in nicely in that trio.

Mike Gorman without a doubt. I upgrade my league pass to premium just to have the option to switch to local commentary and listen to Mike & Tommy.
Mike is great on play by play, his voice his very pleasant for my ears (very important I think). He always has nice questions to debate with Tommy.
On top of all they make me laugh often. I can't ask much.

As for the "coach style" commentary, I like scal but his voice irritates me. Same for Jackson and Miller, can't support their voice after 30mn. Van Gundy is ok but he's too much of a rebel for me and often have a bias point of view. But I like JVG when he talks purely about defense and offense. I learn a lot from him in the past (still do), might give my respect.

Mike Breen has a great voice with a pleasant attitude. I like him as well.
