what Ainge has been able to do in trades lately has just been masterful.

dumped Pierce/KG for what 3 #1 unprotected picks. they both go on to look done with Brooklyn and are gone the next year.

trades Doc rivers who is out the door for a 1st round pick. had the foresight to lock up Brad stevens long term whom many in the league now are saying is one of the brightest young coaches.

picks up a solid player in tyler zeller for basically nothing.

Trades Rondo for picks/players for essentially a 1 year rental in dallas where he bombs out.

nabs a guy who can score 20ppg in Isaiah Thomas for basically nothing

You forgot the Jeff Green one that resulted via the subsequent Rivers and Prince trades into the following:

2019 1st rd pick (Memphis)
2017 2nd rd pick (Rivers trade)
Jerebko
Datome
2.4M TPE (Rivers)
7.7M TPE (Prince deal, which was used to acquire Thomas)

Also, the Nets deal created Pierce's trade exception, which was then flipped for Zeller, Thornton, and a 1st rd pick. So I would say that the Nets deal, since the Suns wanted that 1st rd pick from the Cavs for Thomas, resulted in the following:

2014 1st rd pick (Young)
2016 1st rd pick
2017 1st rd pick (right to swap with Nets)
2018 1st rd pick
Zeller
Thomas

Rondo played only 34 seconds in the second half of Dallas' Game 2 loss, benched by Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle after picking up two quick fouls, while defending James Harden, as well as a technical. The former All-Star logged just under 10 minutes of court time for the whole game.
Asked after the game if Rondo wanted to be on the floor, Carlisle told reporters in Houston: "You have to ask him that question. All I know right now is that we need everybody at their competitive best. This isn't about one guy who did or didn't play. This is about everybody pulling in the same direction for the organization. That's what it's about."

Just four minutes into the game, Rondo nonchalantly walked the ball up the floor and got whistled for an eight-second backcourt violation with the Rockets applying no pressure. He was then replaced by Barea some 40 seconds later after Jason Terry got loose on the ensuing inbounds pass for a wide-open 3, with Carlisle keeping Rondo on the bench until 5:30 remained in the second quarter.

Rondo served a one-game suspension in late February for conduct detrimental to the team after a profanity-laced shouting match with Carlisle about play-calling responsibilities in a win over Toronto and a subsequent emotionally charged dispute in the locker room after the game.

Plus we have Rondo's trade exemption.

We're going to get someone with a really sweet name with that Dallas pick next year.  Draft Express has Diamond Stone going 8th and Dragan Bender going 10th.

Some will argue that we got out of the rondo business too late.  That trading him sooner would have brought back a star.

But I'm not buying either.  Ainge tried like heck to trade rondo much earlier.  Unfortunately, no one was biting because they knew he was never a star.
