Ok, over the last 24 hours everyone's been jumping on that "I'd love to play the Cavs" line and without listening to it, it's very easy for people to take that out of context.  I didn't even follow up on it because that wasn't the drift.  It was a comment based out of respect for an individual and for a discussion we were having about free agency and players, like LeBron wanting to win and the respect that Wyc had for LeBron and that decision to return to Cleveland.

Much of the conversation was mainly about the organization being able to take the necessary steps forward in the near future, and why some people's fears of the city of Boston being some sort of negative to attracting talent is a bit shortsighted.  Coupled with many players' desire to win, the Celtics' organizational stability along with proven success, and a passionate fan base that appropriately appreciates contributions from its athletes - that should trump any "Boston is too cold" fears.  That and of course, this season, the job Stevens has been doing, etc etc.  Here is the whole chat:

Here's to hoping for a continued enjoyment of Celtics basketball for the remainder of 2015 and maybe some fun afterwards :)

All the best,

edit: if it exists, that is.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

don't have one - sorry.  It was a lengthy chat.  Front page of this site has a story with some quotes, and I do feel it's necessary to lead you to Rich Conte's great work on the authenticity of the organization which has numerous quotes as well:

Awesome, thanks for the link!

I'll definitely set aside time for the podcast -- excited to listen -- just don't have an hour of eartime at the moment.

Wyc, I love ya, buddy, and I know that this was a puff piece, but when you talk about the Celtics legacy and the 17 banners, just remember:

1988: Kevin Love and Kevin Durant born
1990: DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe born
1992: Larry Bird retires
1993: Anthony Davis born

The legacy and the banners don't mean much, if anything to these guys.  When they say, "Show me the Green!," they aren't talking about the banners.

I am not of the opinion that the fact that we have never gotten a good FA to come here means that we never will.  I am, however, of the opinion that the Celtics' legacy will have little to do with it.

The tradition is just one in a laundry list of reason why the Celtics should be an attractive place to play basketball.

Nice podcast, as always. I listened last night and Wyc's blood seemed to heat up at the notion of having to sell Boston to free agents.

the major reason they don't or haven't gotten big name free agents is because they simply haven't had the money.

I do think if wyc and danny think the banners, history and tradition are enough to lure FA's they're going to be disappointed. that stuff doesn't matter to todays players. and to those it may matter to they're likely insignificant players.
