Jay King: Tayshaun Prince and Shavlik Randolph are both practicing with the Celtics right now. James Young (illness) is not. Poor guy still has the flu.

Prince prob asked Danny to be bought out. And Danny said no. Not until the trade deadline

Shav will be a good practice guy .

Seems like Young has been sick an inordinate amount of time this season.

its the flu bug - Young has it, Sully was affected and even Tommy got struck down. It happens to majority of us multible times b4 we jump into the coffin. I wouldnt jump into drawing conclusions by mixing it up with his sport related injuries.

having Prince around for some time can only help our young guys in development as he is a seasoned veteran with a title ring on a roster without much exp and a coach lacking in that department as well. In worst case what he offers is another sparing partner in training. However he could show our guys one or two tricks and talk to them about stuff like focus, will and ways how to forge titles out of that. I don't know if he is that kind of guy, its what Crash does - even if he gets no minutes he often says a couple of words to his teammates in timeouts. He might not be contributing much on the court but he shows character and help in other ways instead of just stacking his money in his fault.

I wouldnt be sad to take Crashs plays on the bench - I don't see why I would be less good in keeping the seat nice and warm. Ok, initially I think he wasnt singed to do that, or was he? I can't remember anymore - its like he has allways been sitting there. :D

These guys may not be spry anymore.   But they have the never quit attitude .  Something the rookies need to be around .   Not all vets are good for rookies , but I like these two for setting an example.

I'm very happy to see DA isn't just buying out Prince. A buyout would likely land him on the clippers which hurts the Cs. I think this will lead to the Cs netting a protected 2nd, maybe a TPE, and an expiring deal while dictating which contender he goes to.

Prince had said something to the effect that Danny told him after the trade to take a few days and get things together with his family (it was in an article about the difficulty for vets with families being traded mid-season) and how Prince appreciated that deference. Danny did have him and Shav report for the Clipper game.

Could be just a coincidence timing wise but it's interesting that Prince's first game is against the team that was interested in acquiring his services after a buyout. Like most on here, I'm not interested in helping the Clips out because it hurts their (our) draft position, but maybe Ainge is showcasing Prince for Doc today to squeeze something out of Doc.

Just not sure if the Clips have anything else we would want for Prince, and even if they do, if we would want to help them at all.

so it seems. i hope this is not a pattern of the "hellenic flu."

Trade Prince to anyone but the Clippers.
that depends upon the return. i dont see prince making a significant difference in terms of the celtics pick from the clippers.

first, how many more wins will prince provide for the clippers? honestly, i cant see him making the difference in more than 1 to 2 games, and would not be surprised if he made no difference at all.

second, lets adopt the celtic's worse case scenario and say prince brings 2 more victories to the clips. how much would that move the draft position? it might move the pick from the low twenties to the mid-twenties. i dont see that as a deal breaker if something good comes back to the celtics.

in the draft, the chances are high that ainge can get someone he wants in mid-twenties range. and if he needs to move up a few spots he has the assets.

so, trading prince to the clips is a bit of a gamble, but even if the gamble does not work out, the loss is not significant in my mind. and if ainge gets something for prince and prince makes NO difference in the clippers' w/l column, then all the better and the celtics would have gotten something for nothing.

i trust ainge to weigh the odds and roll the dice if the payoff looks good.
