For those that don't remember him, Tarpley was a tremendous rebounder and a rising star, but of course the story of his career is always going to be the cocaine and alcohol problems that derailed it.  Shame his post-NBA life ended so soon.

I'm 42, so I remember him very well.  Sadly, Tarpley's life was a mess.  But when he was on, man, he was on...

Those late 80's Mavericks teams were outstanding.  Tarpley won 6th Man of the Year once for Dallas, and was a great player.  I hate reading things like this - 50 is too young to die.  A friend of mine & I were texting about this last night as we are both diehard NBA fans, especially of the 80s era.  It's just sad that Roy couldn't have had better people in his life to help him make better decisions.
