It seems to me that they are pacing Young.  It is almost like they are "stashing" him in D-League instead of Europe.  The NBA is a grind and he is a very young rookie (wasn't he the youngest?).  It seems like a good plan to me.  Why rush him and risk getting worn down or even injured.

Young can join the team with a more defined role next season, along with our 3 first round picks.  It is going to be the youngest team ever.

He missed training camp and then got injured, so he needs time.

Plus, we have three small forwards already.

Our January schedule is really brutal, but from February through season end, it is similar to how soft December was. The Celtics were 7-8 in December and there was the disruption of the trade.

I would love to see "us" get through January and play better than .500 ball after. I am in the camp that thinks tanking at this point is a bad joke. We have the Net's picks and already have a slew of young talent. Bringing Young back and inserting him as a shooter after the All Star break, with fresh legs and all, is a nice tactic to take. I would much rather "us" be the young team that improves a lot, gets red hot for awhile, and get into the playoffs. I would like to see Young get experience as a key shooter off the bench late in the season. If we make any trades, I am going to be sick if they aren't obvious upgrades.

I don't think anyone is arguing that point, but we have to distinguish the difference between having young talent and having young talent you can build around. We still have a team of complementary pieces.

As for your second point, I would prepare to become very ill as Green and Bass are the most likely to go now.

I think they're  in part disciplining him to make sure that he is motivated to become a two-way player. Wise, IMO.

But why try to begin team building before we have a foundation? I wouldn't try to start adding pieces until we have something to build around. I'd give DA one more draft with a high pick to try and pick a star and then start to either make moves to win now or get pieces that fit well with our established young core.

He might as well play with the real team.
