Cap Holds

Hypothetical:

The Celtics hold on to Green, but Jeff Green opts out. The Celtics hold on to Bass and Thornton; subsequently they become FAs but take a while to sign. The Celtics hold on to Wright through the deadline, and he follows suit with Bass and Thornton.

Does someone want to guess how the C's plan to remedy having all of these potential cap holds? Do we not have a cap hold on Wright even if we hold on to him because he was acquired mid-season?

Anyone with a bit more knowledge or creativity interested in constructing a narrative to answer this hypothetical for me?

There would be a cap hold on all of those players, however if a better deal comes around or if the Celtics are not interested in resigning any of them they could simply renounce their rights to the player(s).  Rick Pitino famously did that when he renounced Rick Fox and David Wesley to sign Travis Knight.  Usually a team will not renounce the rights until they are ready to sign a FA as that takes away the teams chance to use the player in a sign and trade.
