i wonder if we can help them shed steve hash's contract to get assets. It would be great if we can help facilitate them and get Randle.
They already have cap space to sign Melo.  Kobe/Melo/Randle would be interesting.

But also, they could just package Randle with Nash and take back another max contract guy... like Rondo for example.

Unless they renounce Pau Gasol, I don't believe they have anywhere close to the cap space required to offer a max deal.

Which is why the Lakers basically made Melo a promise of an offer, rather than an offer.
That's a given... hence why I didn't include his name.

Everyone freaked out when Kobe signed that extension, but it was pretty clear to me that they'd still have the ability to sign a max contract player by letting Pau walk... and Nash + #7 would probably net them another star (like Kevin Love) ... or they can just wait until 2015 when they'll have the cap space to sign a 4th star alongside Kobe, Melo and Randle (who I think has all-star potential.  We might regret passing on him).

I think Randle has All star potential as well, and I am happy with our pick, but I cringe when i think about passing on Randle. The sick side of me wants Randle and Smart on the same team....

if these big name players are going to take the league hostage while they choose which team they decide to go to, it should be a rule that they have it decided before free agency starts.

this is stoopid.

No one is forcing teams to wait.  They are free to move on to other free agents.

true. but they are.

i'm just saying if these guys are all going to conspire to play for one team I think they should have an idea in place and make a decision and not drag it out. forcing other teams to wait and see what happens, so they can decide what to do.

the players have way too much power in this league these days and it's the most unenjoyable part of this sport. don't get me wrong, I like the activity of the NBA off-season. but these clowns conspiring to play with one another and holding the rest of the league hostage while they decide what they want to do has to go.

they clearly don't want to work for a championship, so why don't we just call them all champions now and move on.

they wouldn't have to renounce Pau, they could just sign him to a contract that would still give them the necessary cap space to sign Anthony.
