I just thought of something! Could Lebron opting out of his Miami contract be a trick to make Bosh opt out thinking the trio is breaking up only to have Melo back door him & take his portion & the James resigns. This situation just got sticky guys!

It would be hilarious if he did that to Wade. ;D

They should do it to Wade.  Would actually be beneficial to the Heat.

Let him go there; I doubt they get out of the west.  We can help, by giving TPE in exchange for Nash and pick 7; they need the cap space.

The Celtics should have no part of allowing the Lakers the ability to form such a super team.

Just on paper; Spurs would spank 'em in the WCF.

Why would LeBron want to help Kobe get more rings?  So he can further cement himself as a step lower than Kobe, a #1A type HOF player forever?  This makes zero sense.

Hadn't thought about that. Great point.

Doubt Wade opts out.  Alimony is a beach.

Do you think Kobe is still going to be good?

I'd be shocked if he came back as a high level player.

History would suggest otherwise for a SG at his age and mileage, I understand that. But Kobe's mental make-up and determination alone will make him a top player in the league again. Especially as a 3rd option.
I don't think his mentality will allow him to be the third option.

Beyond that all the grit and grind in the world doesn't give you back quickness/lift from a torn achilles.

Not that I think this will happen, but if I was an optimistic Lakers fan hoping that this would go down, I'd point to how well the 3 of them played together in the '08 and '12 Olympics.  With Kobe showing veteran leadership, playing team ball, and allowing others to shine.

And then I'd hope Kobe realizes it's time to pass the torch, Tim Duncan style. It will still be Kobe's team, and he'll still be seen as the leader of the bunch, but he'll get Melo and LeBron to do the heavy lifting.

Ya I'd be focusing on how well they played together and how often they were on the court together during the last 2 Olympics to believe this could happen.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

And that mental make-up won't allow him to accept being the 3rd option regardless of whomever the first two options would be.  I just don't understand the allure of playing with Kobe right now if you're Lebron.  You're hands down the best player in the league.  You've gotten the championship monkey off your back.  Why go team up with an aging alpha dog in a city where he's the undisputed king.

But don't forget, Kobe could retire in a couple years, hence the Lakers become Lebron's team.

Also, though Wade was four years younger, Lebron already piggybacked on Dwayne Wade's team back in 2010. I don't think he mind jumping to another star's team.

Finally, I think the allure of being the next great Laker would be tempting to him.

At which point Lebron will be in his 30's when it becomes his team.

I just don't see how going to LA would be that different than his current situation that he'd be trying to get away from.  You'd have a lot of money in three superstars.  Not a lot left to spend on role players.  Diminishing skills of one of those superstars.  Warm climate.  Laid back fans.

That being said.  I won't sleep well until it's confirmed he's not going to the lakers.

When two different evil factions join forces to become one big enemy.

With old man Kobe and the "me not we" team, I still don't think they'll get past the West. It's waaaay too competitive. And I think LA fans wouldn't welcome LeBron anyways.

But for a #7 and Nash...eh.

By trading the No. 7 overall pick and dumping Steve Nash and his $9.7 million expiring contract, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly one of the teams ramping up for a run at LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

As long as Kobe is on the lakers they will never win another championship. Waaaay overpaid and his contract is crippling the team...I dont think many people want to play with a 36 year old Bryant next season...

Bosh is not opting out, not for less money, not to leave, not for anything.
