Sam Jones has 10 rings, he played in 154 Playoff games and averaged 19ppg on a team whose ability to share the ball was legendary.... right now he's on the fringe of the Top 5 in a CELTICS forum. Meanwhile everyone is upset about Jerry West not being included
Sam Jones, unlike Jerry West, was not the best player on any of his teams -- a pretty common prerequisite for entry into the Top 5 of all time discussion.
Except for the fact that he doesn't play the position that we're talking about. I also disagree about that prerequisite, Sam Jones could have easily played somewhere else where he was the #1 option... and lost to the Celtics every year like Jerry West.
Sure, but Jerry West was still better at basketball than Sam Jones was, regardless of which team he played for or whether you continue this relatively pedantic positional classification debate.
I never said he wasn't. But in the current NBA the "best player" on the team is usually whoever lead the team in scoring. Sam Jones lead The Boston Celtics in scoring for 63, 65, 66, 67, and 68. They won the title in 4/5 of those years. It's not like Jerry West is this great all-time player and Sam Jones is some hack.
You are aware that you are, however implicitly, suggesting in your post that Bill Russell
wasn't the best player on the '63, '65, '66, '67, and '68 Celtics teams, right?
