well, the San Jose Mercury news lists two major stumbling blocks for the GS-Minnesota trade:

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2014/06/20/snags-warriors-kevin-love-talks-dont-want-take-back-kevin-martin-dont-want-include-klay-thompson/

"A few hours ago an NBA source insisted to me that the Warriors flat-out will not agree to any of the proposals Minnesota is currently suggesting in the Kevin Love discussions. Not now, not in a day, not in 400 days. The first stumbling block: The Warriors are making it clear to everyone in the league, including Minnesota president Flip Saunders, that they very much do not want to part with Klay Thompson, the key part of any Minnesota demand. San Jose Mercury-News

Second big stumbling block: The Warriors have zero desire to take back expensive, no-defense shooting guard Kevin Martin in the deal, the source said. San Jose Mercury-News"

Sounds to me like Minnesota made an offer to GS, the Warriors refused, and then Minnesota went to the press and made it sound like a done deal that GS proposed. Just as I thought, there are no offers on the table yet that beat the celtics offer.

This also supports the idea that the lakers rumor is total BS.

Does this mean that Mychal Thompson (Klay's dad) 'broke' false information. He works for gthe Lakers what does he gain by this leak? Did he want to protect his son by getting the GSW fans to bulk at the trade? What was Mychal's agenda?

his dad only said that the warriors had officially made his son available. I believe it was the twitter-verse and media that said they made him available as part of a deal for love.

Now that I think about it, why the heck would the Lakers be trading for Klay anyway?  Isn't the 2 guard the one position they've got locked down already?  This rumor doesn't make much sense even by rumor standards.

I'm pretty sure Klay has enough size (6'7" 205 lbs.) to be a reasonably effective SF

Maybe so, and they'd hope to slide him over once Kobe retires.  Still doesn't seem like a good fit, but maybe they're just trying to be opportunistic.

This was my line of thinking.  Play Klay at SF until Kobe retires.  Maybe Klay turns out to be better at SF anyways.

But Who could be right, maybe the Lakers would just slide Kobe to SF, so as not to expose him to quicker SG's.

Either way, I think it would be a good fit.  Klay seems to be best suited to playing off the ball anyways.  LA would still desperately need a good PG though.

Thompson is not a SF, he isn't strong enough and would get abused on the low post

Why does everyone think Klay is so good? in the end will he be better than Gordon, Vonleh or Smart? Maybe, but odds are no. Any draft pick could be a bust, but using #6 on Klay is ludicrous, the upside of that pick is too high to get a ROLE player on.

Everyone loves Thompson because he's part of the splash bros with Curry but all this guy does is shoot and it really helps him that teams focus their energy on stopping Curry not him.

Also, he doesn't pass (2.2 APG) or Rebound (2.7 RPG), seriously all he does is shoot. I would take Bradley's upside over him especially because Klay's newest contract will be overpaying him big time.

Why does everyone think Klay is so good?

Because people overrate PPG.

exactly. the dude jacks up 3's, and will make a few spectacular plays, but overall, the consistency and total game isn't there, much like AB and jeff green, who get slaughtered on these forums.
thompson's a nice player, but he's playing with curry, lee, iggy, and bogut - if he were really that great he'd elevate that team and visibly dominate, but mostly i just see him jacking up 3's. look at his career stats and you'll see he really hasn't improved since his rookie year, i highly doubt he ever turns into a true star, especially if he goes to a talentless team like minny. the D will key in on him and he'll be exposed big time, and minny fans will be complaining the way c's fans do about jeff green.

for the record, i do think people would love Klay Thompson if he was a Celtic. spreads the floor, moves well off the ball, can somewhat create off the dribble, and capable of being the focal point of offense on some nights. plus, high IQ and high effort guy. Plus, he's only 23 years old.

This is such a crap rumor lol. Haha it's just made up crap. No one literally in the nba had fewer assets in the nba then the lakers. 7 ain't getting Klay. And they have nothing else to offer.

If the warriors are willing to give up Klay they'd just do a deal with the Wolves? Why would they bring the Lakers into this?

I know this is a mis-typed sentence, but its perfect.

I actually agree that this is mostly posturing. There are some significant obstacles in the way.

-Klay doesn't want to play in Minny (his dad said as much)
-He only has one more year on the rookie scale (and will want $$$)
-GS doesn't want to take back Martin

Those are all pretty notable problems for these teams. Personally I'd do a Thompson/Lee-for-Love swap 7 days a week but I guess Jerry West feels differently. Getting out from under Lee's deal alone is worth it's weight in gold. The future pick rumor that is floating around wouldn't even stop me. Especially because Love will almost certainly resign in GS. I'm on that deal 10/10 times.

Bogut
Love
Barnes
Iggy
Curry

That is a nuts starting line-up. If Barnes gets over his sophomore slump that is a top-3 NBA team. If he doesn't then maybe they can talk Pierce in to a minimum deal to play closer to home and contend.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Has there been Minny headline that reads, '(Kevin) Love The One You're With!'?

Because I like to think it's in the works, if it hasn't happened yet.
