without any picks, what would you do to fixed that team to make it to the ECF next year?

livingston might go to Minnesota
blatche might go to New Orleans
teague might be gone
collins gone
anderson might be gone
thorton might be traded

and the most intriguing player KG
lets say kg return and take the 12million  and pierce return and so is ak47

what would you do on your line-up now?

starting 5
williams, johnson, pierce, kg, lopez (move kg to PF again?)

with mirza plumlee ak47 anderson thorton guitterrez left as bench players
what would you do? buy a pick from philly and draft someone?
let livingston and blatche walked without getting nothing?
trade thorton?
or pay another luxury tax and pay pierce his granted salary?

what is the nets lacked off?
rebounding PF? a back-up PG? perimeter defender SG? or another C?
plumlee is a foul trouble guy and lopez is unsure of knee surgery and might play mid-season
with a limited 16 to 19 minutes a game KG

mo williams steve blake or someone as nets back-up PG?
varejao 8million (pay the tax) or trade thorton for a bigman
buy a pick from philly and draft a SG?

(i don't think nets window is closed, with a mix of young bench players they can win next year like spurs) specially if battier allen chalmers are gone

any thoughts?

Good question.  I think they'll be competitive, but unless Deron gets back to form, I can't see them making the ECF next season.

I think KG probably retires and Pierce goes elsewhere.   So their core is Deron, Johnson and Brook.  All 3 of them make a ton of money.   I guess it depends if any teams covet one of those guys.  Like if the Pacers covet the idea of Deron running point, maybe the Nets could work out a deal where they got some assets for Deron ... starting with Stephenson?  Maybe it would work out.   They could try to get a team to overpay for Brook Lopez... maybe they'd get some solid vets and everything would "click".

But at the moment I'm not sure what they could do.

after kg saw the heat lose to the spurs, seeing duncan win one more ring before retirement (maybe), ray allen retiring and so is battier, an old birdman and haslem, beasley who can't rebounds, even those big 3 take less money i don't think they can sign someone like hasik or someone

if i was kg i would return, and i think KG would return
kg retiring = no pierce ak47 blatche livingston (it would be a disaster for the nets teams)

It might be a disaster, but it might not.

Assuming Lopez comes back and Deron gets healthy, it would negate the loss of KG and Pierce.  AK47 could take a large role as well.  Thornton can take a large role.  That team would still be capable of 50 wins, but it's probably unlikely given the shaky health of everyone.

I don't know that this would be their lineup, but maybe something like

PG - Deron
SG - Thornton
SF - Johnson
PF - Ak47
C - Lopez

Might work.

Lopez is injury prone and overrated when healthy and under contract for huge money through 2016.
Joe Johnson is 33 and plays like he's 36 and under contract for huge money through 2016.
Deron Williams is 30 and his skills have been diminishing for several years and under contract for huge money through 2017.
KG will probably retire.
Pierce will likely leave.
The Nets have no talented young players and the Celtics own their first round pick.
They are screwed.
They will be bad next year and will have to swap their first round pick with the Hawks.
They will be terrible in 2015 and the Celtics will get their lottery pick.
They will be terrible in 2016 and the Celtics will get their lottery pick.
They will be terrible in 2017 and the Celtics will get their lottery pick.

The disaster that is the Nets will fuel the next Celtics dynasty.   ;D

I'd try to move Lopez for some future picks and would see what I could get for everyone else on the roster and try to start over.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I would immediately make moves exactly the opposite of the kind of trade they made with Boston.  They are a long way away in my opinion.

agree with all BUT I do like plumlee or whatever that young bigs name is
i for one will be in SHOCK if kg returns next year, i feel he is way to competitive to play at a sub par level (which he did)
lopez i hope gets healthy for his sake, he is a nice offensive center
as far as being gm?$ due lopez, williams and jj where can you go with them?  williams is overrated imo, johnson is good but that contract!

I'd try to keep KG but move him out of the starting lineup to backup center position. Give Brook Lopez 28-30mpg and give KG the other 18-20mpg. If KG does not return, Plumlee should get the playing time. I'd let Blatche leave. Too many centers competing for same playing time. Unhealthy chemistry wise.

I'd let Pierce leave. I do not like the balance of the team with him in it. Too slow on the perimeter when they go big with Pierce (SF) alongside JJ (SG) and Deron (PG). Or too small, as a team, with Pierce at PF alongside JJ (SF) and two guards. Pierce doesn't fit well into the team. Too many slow old legs. I'd be interested in him in a 25mpg 6th man role but I doubt Pierce is ready to accept that yet so that is probably a non-starter.

Finding a power forward would be first priority in free agency. Maybe Patrick Patterson.

I'd also fire Jason Kidd. I hated the offense he ran last year.

I do not think the team has enough talent or trade assets to improve to make the ECF next season. Best opportunities for improvement will likely come from possible trades involving Deron Williams and/or Brook Lopez. However, not sure what the market is for either player right now given their recent injuries / performances. I think Brooklyn will have to hold onto to them for now and reassess those two player's value around trade deadline.
