"Faverani (knee) won't be allowed by the Celtics' team doctors to participate in the World Cup or the Summer League, AHE! reports. (about 4 days ago)." via EPSN / Rotowire

Any word on how his rehad is going or is this standard timing for a big.

based on what? He's got a multi year contract, Ainge recently said he's part of their long term plans, and now they are obviously protecting his health for the upcoming season by preventing him from trying to play in international competitions

I don't believe that. He had surgery in March and summer league starts the first week of July. This is pretty much the norm for recovery, especially for meaningless summer league. Faverani showed too much promise early in the season, just turned 26, has a cheap contract, and is one of the few legit 7 footers we have on the roster. He could easily turn into an Antic type rotation player for us off the bench.

Ainge in mid-May:

Quote
Vitor is rehabbing right now in Spain. He rehabbed here after his surgery, and while he?s over there we?re communicating with him and the people who are rehabbing him. He?ll either come in or we?ll go see him some time during the summer. He won?t be ready to go for summer league.

I think he proved he was good. When he was getting minutes for us and when he was playing in the D-League, I think he proved to everyone that he?s an NBA player.

He was the only guy on our team this year that was actually any presence at the rim at all. Because Hump (Kris Humphries) was playing well, and Brandon and Kelly and Sully were all playing well, it was just tough for him to get in the rotation. There?s also the language barrier and a cultural thing, but as far as the talent, we think he is definitely an NBA player.

I?d like to get an additional (rim protector), but I think Vitor has proven he can play a role for us.
